Difficult to tell because it's a "grab" from a poor-quality video. From the wires running to it, though, I think it's a package of explosives.

That's what it looks like to me too.
This whole thing is absolutely crushing. Not just because hundreds of innocent children died. But also because the world doesn't seem interested in doing much about it. Perhaps this is the way it's all supposed to end...with the armies of terror ruling the earth because our Western pansy-asses can't come up with an effective response.

It is an explosive, see the wires going to it. From the initial reports it was probably loaded with nail, bolts, pieces of metal, ball bearings.
They are antipersonel, intended to do the most damage.
