Russert had his super-serious knit eyebrows look going on. And he gravely intoned that the 1000th death might "refocus the American people on the war in Iraq." Translation: "Bush hasn't been sufficiently bashed lately over Iraq. Maybe this will help."

1000? 2000? Big deal. Over 2500 were killed on the first day of D-Day. How many thousands died during our Revolutionary War? As long as we are killing more of them than they are of us, then we are winning. When the death toll reaches over 10,000 then maybe I may have a different opinion.
