On a few other threads here, it's been posted that Barnes wasn't even Lt Governor in early 1968, when this supposedly happened. He didn't take office until 1969.

I've tried Googling this, but I haven't confirmed it yet. Anybody?

Yes. It is most assuredly true. Barnes became Lieutenant Governor in 1969 but Bush joined up in 1968.

All the news stories quote Barnes' allegation with an ellipses about halfway through the quote where they took something out. If you look at the video the ellipses part says "when I was Lieutenant Governor." The media cut that part out of the newspapers because they KNEW that Barnes wasn't Lieutenant Governor when Bush joined up.
