Partisan politics is no reason to brand another person a liar (Need help rebutting letter to editor)
Anchorage Daily News ^ | September 8, 2004 | Steve Howze

Posted on 09/08/2004 12:25:07 PM PDT by AlaskaErik

In his Aug. 29 letter ("Democratic Party doesn't work for the nation; it just wants money"), Don Moody characterized my letter about President Bush's strategic mistakes as partisan, Democratic lies. It's fact that prior to Sept. 11, 2001, Bush did little about the terrorist threat, despite warnings by President Clinton. Has the Iraq war made the United States safer? A leading House Republican stated the Iraq situation is "a dangerous mess." His assessment is nonpartisan. I served in the nuclear submarine force during the Cold War and believe that Bush has made strategic mistakes with respect to nuclear WMDs. Ironically, the nasty Republican Swift Boat Veterans for Truth's smear campaign has been proved untruthful. John Kerry is a distinguished veteran. Republicans have repeatedly smeared veterans in recent political campaigns and even Republican John McCain, when he ran against Bush. Don Moody accuses Democrats of being motivated by profit. Consider that Republican presidents caused the trillions of dollars in national debt with their "trickle down economic" tax cut schemes. George Bush's tax cut never produced many jobs, and the deficit is up another trillion dollars. Worker incomes are lower under Bush. Maybe declining real wages are because the Republican Congress skims 2 trillion dollars per year, and redistributes much of the money to wealthier people. Please don't brand me a liar for your own partisan political reasons.

I want to rebut the part about the Swiftees.

Is there any information about the political affilations of the 254? Certainly they must represent a cross-section of America including their party affiliation. I doubt they are all Republicans.

How many of the accusations has the Kerry campaign backed off on. I'm aware of Christmas in Cambodia and the first purple heart.

Has anything in "Unfit to Command" been successfully rebutted?

How much have the Swiftees spent and how much have the left-wing 527's spent?

Besides George Soros, which other mega-billionaires have made significant contributions to left-wing 527's?

Who are the major left-wing 527's? I'm aware of MoveOn.org.

Thanks, that should get me started. But feel free to include any other relevant info.

Sorry about the lack of paragraphs...I must have been steamed! Here is the relevant paragraph:

Ironically, the nasty Republican Swift Boat Veterans for Truth's smear campaign has been proved untruthful. John Kerry is a distinguished veteran. Republicans have repeatedly smeared veterans in recent political campaigns and even Republican John McCain, when he ran against Bush.

I couldn't read past:

Bush did little about the terrorist threat, despite warnings by President Clinton

The only useful thing the stainmaster had to tell President Bush was "for God's sake, burn the dress

Bush did little about the terrorist threat, despite warnings by President Clinton.

Clinton, nor officals in his administration warned Bush about terrorist threats, specifically AQ or Osama. The National Security Assesment given to the Bush Admin did NOT contain one single reference to Osama and the words Al Queda only appeared ONCE.

Ironically, the nasty Republican Swift Boat Veterans for Truth's smear campaign has been proved untruthful.

This is repeated over and over and over yet not a single thing the SwiftVets say about Kerry is ever shown to be a lie with evidence.

Maybe declining real wages are because the Republican Congress skims 2 trillion dollars per year, and redistributes much of the money to wealthier people.

Find me one "poor" person who had a dollar taken from their wallet that was then handed to a "rich" person.

And where does the 2 trillion number come from? The ENTIRE revenue to the federal government this year will be just over 2 trillion. So therefore, virtually every single dollar in tax revenue to the federal government would have to be "redistributed" to the "wealthy" for this statement to even begin to approach reality.

A couple simple things: So far, Kerry is the only one who has changed his version of events...not the Swifties. Kerry has not only backed off the Christmas in Cambodia story, he has revised his "no man left behind" claim, admitting that he originally did flee to return later. I also read that his campaign has also admitted that his first PH may have been from a self-inflicted wound...as the SBVT claimed. So far, Kerry is the only one that has been discredited

Nothing of the Swiftees accusations has been rebutted, except with smears and ad hominem attacks against these honorable veterans. I am sure if you ask nicely over at www.swiftvets.com, they will give you no end of ammo to fling at this loser.

That is a lie that the lefties are spreading, using the old Josef Goebbels technique of repeating a lie until it becomes "truth" of sorts.

The only person that has had to retract stories is Kerry. See "Christmas in Cambodia," Purple Heart #1 (self inflicted), the mystery "V" on the Silver Star, an award simply not given out by the Navy. He claimed to have seen atrocities and war crimes on a daily basis, but never used his 8mm camera to record a single event, just reenactments of himself tramping throught the jungle.

The list is endless, but the liar is Kerry. If it wasn't, he would release his FULL military record (sign the 180) to prove it. He refuses to do so. This is not the actions of a man confident of his own veracity.

PS. There is a great thread in here that details Kerry's changing position on the X-mas in Cambodia story. Not only did he revise this story once, but if I recall, Kerry has had 4 different accounts of this one event.
Remember, also...that the US Navy is now investigating some of these stories, as well. While the media may not be taking it seriously, the Navy obviously is. Maybe you could inform the media of this little detail that they have to report.

Another search will bring up more details on Kerry's reserve status...which if I understood, was still active until 1978. For all the crap about Bush's service, Kerry may have some problems in this same arena. The fact is the media is just plain lying about the SBVT as Kerry has been the only one to change his stories.

People tend to overlook the entire second section of the book, which deals with kerry's anti-war activities after he came home. You haven't heard the kerry campaign try to rebut any of that section. In fact, the campaign even had to correct statements about that period. For example, kerry claimed that he left the VVAW in early 1971 and never spoke with All Hubbard after that. The campaign has changed that statement and now admits that kerry was at the November 1971 meeting with Hubbard. In addition, even though kerry claims to have left the VVAW at that time, he made speeches in 1972 as the spokesperson for the VVAW and was even identified as a spokesman as late as when he won the congressional primary. Hope that helps.

The 527 that I have seen in Oregon are moveon, america coming together, some environfreako org., and another name with america in it. I am sure there are others ,but, I haven't seen their commercials. Oh, you can add the Oregon Democratic Party to that list; they just put out an add saying vote against all Republicans because they have destroyed our country in the last 14 years.
