Records Raise Questions On Bush's Guard Service
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin had a strong reaction to newly released records about President George W. Bush's service in the Texas National Guard.
On Wednesday, CBS' "60 Minutes" reported that records kept by Bush's former commanding officer show Col. Jerry Killian was pressured to give Bush positive evaluations.
Bush told reporters that he received no special treatment.
Harkin said these records show that the president hasn't been honest.
"The documentation shows that the president was not being truthful," Harkin said. "The president lied to the American people in the Oval Office when he spoke with Tim Russert. That's why this is news. It goes to the character of George W. Bush."
The Bush administration said those charges are just dirty politics.
"Their strategy is now that the president is ahead in the polls, they're going to try to bring him down, so let's recycle old charges," White House Communications Director Dan Bartlett said.
White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan said the fact that the documents are surfacing now is no accident.
He claimed the chargers were coordinated by Democrats.
How can Senator Harkin appear before the press and say, regarding now widely viewed as faked memos that impugned President Bush's National Guard service the following:"The documentation shows that the president was not being truthful," and "The president lied to the American people in the Oval Office when he spoke with Tim Russert. That's why this is news. It goes to the character of George W. Bush."
The senator's hypocrisy is nothing short of amazing. He thought nothing of the lies of Bill Clinton, his lack of service, his active avoidance of service in the Vietnam era when Clinton was running for President, not to mention the stellar demonstrations of a lack of character on Clinton's part during the Monica Lewinski episode. All of a sudden character matters to Senator Harkin. Pity he's not consistent with his regard to character.

Harkin doesn't care. He got his face time on camera. That's all he wants. If a burnig bush gave him proof the documents were faked in MS Word, Harkin would just clam up. There will be no correction.
The only thing we can do is not highten his visability with a write in campaign.

The phony TANG documents are now proven lies and forgeries and Harkins lies. He was a phony hero also, so he testifies for Kerry, another phony hero.
Harkin lied and said he was Vietnam combat fighter pilot and wore the ribbons, Goldwater nailed his arse as a slime & called him a damned liar, for he never got anywhere Vietnam. Harkin then cvhanged and said he was a Vietnam era pilot.
I called just a couple hours ago. The poor dolt on the other end said they're being inundated with calls today. Excellent!
He didn't even do that much. His ferrying duties were to/from Japan but from/to (I believe) the Philipines(sp?). There's no indication that he ever entered Vietnamese air space. I'll try to find a link to confirm this.
