Tonight, on the AL RANTEL SHOW, he had Bernard Goldberg - author of BIAS and former CBS News producer - as a guest to talk about RATHERGATE.
Here are some highlights from a man who knows about the culture over at CBS News:
Rathergate. Is Rather biased or duped?
The documents. Suspicious. The documents appear to be phoney. However, prime time mags, like 60 MINUTES, have a point of view, which is based on reporting. The POV on this piece is that Bush is a liar and slacker. Problem though. Being invested, being exclusive. All figures into it.
Worst part, though, the Colonel's family doesn't think the docs are legit, offered proof and other people to corroborate Bush's service. CBS didn't want to hear it. Thus, the BIAS. It's not that Rather is conspiring, it's that he lives in a liberal bubble, a culture, which they all live within. Rather has it all on the line, and as such - he's "circling the wagons." They don't like Bush. So it makes it easier to push the envelope. They don't put Swifties on because of that. They think there are two kinds of people - moderates, and right wing nuts. They also believe that anyone who disagree with them are "right-wing nuts." In their world, they don't get your question. They don't see their own bias.
Goldberg believes that CBS's declaring there is no investigation is not only a lie, but the arrogance is what will sink them. It'd just plain bad business. And if it blows up in Rather's face, HE'S DONE. But Goldberg suspects that Rather will wiggle his way out of this any way he can to keep his job.
The Bias comes from a group think. What happens is that certain kinds of people go into certain kinds of jobs. Liberals gravitate towards "the arts." As such, the industry reaches critical mass - and as such, anything left of center they view as middle of the road. And they don't get what flyover country is really all about. If you don't agree with them, they honestly view you as a right wing wacko.
The bloggers. Driving the story. Talk Radio gets people talking about it. Thus, the new media. Without it, the story wouldn't be anywhere.
Sure - post that now...
He's been on for an hour, and he's done now.
I listened via their net stream. Good show.
Thanks that was a good report!
Rathergate! I love it!
OBTW, whats the frequency, Kenneth?
BOYCOTT CBS, sponsors & advertisers!
Rathergate is not only fitting. it is just. I mean correct. Anybody remember old Dan going over to interview Saddam, in 2003, just before we cancelled Saddams pleasure palaces? How, people kept asking, "How come Dan Rather didnt ask Saddam if he had weapons of mass destruction, or not?"
