You either want to "solve" the problem or you don't. I really don't see why employers breaking the law should be immune from prosecution. Shouldn't laws against white collar crime be enforced? The problem of course is that of rampant forgeries; thus the swipe national ID card. If you don't want to do that, the problem will remain extant, and big time. That's just the way it is. Deal with it.

Graf proved that the Buchanan/Tancredo immigration philosophy is a loser. Don't you remember four years ago when Buchanan campaigned on building a fence and only got 1/4 of one percent?

Give it up, Bush is going to win despite your efforts to discourage the base from voting.

On a side note, buchanan just wrote an article condemning Israel and their security fence. Go figure that one.

I had THAT one figured out long ago. For Pat some border crossings are more desirable than others.

Thanks. IMO, the border issue is totally out of control and I'm not happy with my President's position on this issue.

No one is except the open border crowd, with their chant of, "its too hard, we don't have the money, we don't have the man power, we'll be called racist, American's love open borders, who will mow our lawn, don't go after employers it's not fair, a wall won't work, we don't have the resources, Buchanan is a Nazi".

Now, back to the important issue of the "memos"!

"Why put the responsibility of law enforcement on private business?"

Because they are putting the responsibility on the rest of us to feed and shelter, and build infrastructure! At least when slavery was "legal" the plantation owners had enough "morality" to shelter their workers, yet now we live in a far worse time with greedy employers hiding behind a veil of implied socialism.

But only a fair question begs another fair question; why should the taxpayers be added the responsibility to pay, we have enough taxes at it is!

Furthermore we live in a democracy e.g. majority rules…. there are far more tax payers in favor of cutting cash supplements to business laborers, than business wanting to cheat the rest of us.

Businesses should pay up their fair share of what it really cost to import immigrant workers, new schools housing tracts, roads, hospitals, municipal water gas and electric or go out of business!!!!!!!!!!!!! The local governments here in CA are going to do just that because nothing is being done, and it would be far less trouble if these businesses were to fold than if our local governments collapse altogether!

You are a victim of the Buchanan/Tancredo propaganda and discredited studies commissioned by municipalities trying to get federal funds.

Capitalism, businesses, employers and employees are good things. When you increase taxes or other burdens on businesses they either pass the costs on to consumers, go out of business or relocate out of country.

We have the greatest period of prosperity in history and some xenophobes want to derail it.

So if rounding them up isn't realistic how can he say there can be enforcement of them leaving should Bush's wannabe Amnesty plan was passed? They're *NOT* going to leave, plain and simple.

"Fifty-three percent of working-age Los Angeles County residents have trouble reading street signs or bus schedules..." and "Los Angeles has the highest rate of so-called undereducated adults of any major U.S. metropolitan area. Low-literacy rates reached 65% on the Eastside and 84% in South Los Angeles." (L.A. Times).

California taxpayers waste FIVE BILLION ($5,000,000,000) on funding services given to illegal immigrants.

Why does southern California congressman David Dreier, chair of the all-powerful House Rules committee have the WORST grade among all House Republicans when it comes to immigration in the past 3 3/4 yrs (a 24/100)? He barely edges Barney Frank (22/100) and Hillary Clinton (22/100)! He's worse than Maxine Waters (28/100) and John F'n Kerry (45/100)! and even Barbara Boxer (52/100)

THIS WEEK, WHY did David Dreier vote to give Social Security to illegal immigrants? He voted with members of the "Progressive Caucus, associated with the Democratic SOCIALISTS of America," like Pelosi, Frank, Waxman, Filner, Kucinich, Waters, Gutierrez, Jackson-Lee and many others and *NOT* with the majority of his own Republican Party, *NOT* with those with high grades on Stopping Illegal Immigration like Rohrabacher 100/100 and Tancredo 100/100?

WHY? WHY? WHY is Dreier in such a position of POWER within the party? WHY does he have $2.5 million in his re-election war chest in a *safe* GOP district? WHY does he go on TV and LIE about having a "strong stand on illegal immigration" and paint himself as with the majority of the Republican Party when *his record* during the first time for Bush 43 tells to TOTALLY different story.

"DREIER is a LIAR!" and "ASA lies to your face-ah!" This is *ONE* battlefront in the War on Terror the Bush Administration *is* AWOL on.

Costs imposed on citizens via taxes or higher prices emanate from many quarters. Illegals are one of them, albeit via taxes. It is time to take the blinders off, and take a more "fair and balanced" approach. One obtains a bit more credibility that way. JMO.

Evidence? Links? Show something... Anything to back your claims up! Pat's kookified but I've not seen any evidence Trancredo isn't legit on this issue.

Right now even REPEAT offenders when hiring illegals only get minimal fines and the numbers of prosecutions continue to drop year after year. This is after they've been "sentenced" to goto the government's 'how not to hire an illegal' seminars for their past offenses.

If there's no work for illegals, they will not come here and more jobs will be available to under-educated Americans and legal immigrants just starting out in the workforce. Meaningful employer enforcement *must* be included in any strategy. Policy now is so far from "meaningful" today that it's not even planet-side. Bush's Amnesty II is *not* the solution.

Easy for you to say, is my guess. What about the rest of us who suffer from low wages due to unfair competition? What about crime in the streets?

I posit that the ones you are calling xenophobes are not; they just want the massive illegal influx from Mexico to be curtailed.

That's the rub. Realistically speaking, IMO, NOTHING will be done until this happens. And bankruptcy might not even do it! But we certainly shall see.

"What about the rest of us who suffer from low wages due to unfair competition?"

The days of trade unions demanding exorbitant wages is over. Retrain if you can't compete with illegal immigrants, the old days will never come back.

You know, I don't know why the people that have some power in this forum keep you around. You are nothing but an pro-open border, leftist fraud. Your above statement clearly demonstrates this.

Tom Donohue, head of the US Chamber of Commerce, said that very same thing earlier this year during a television interview. However, he couldn't answer the $64,000 question, "For what jobs should workers re-train?"

Must be the best kept secret. :~)

...and some xenophobes want to derail it.

Just how did people who want to see "illegal" immigration stopped become "xenophobes"?

Aren't you forgetting the laws we have in place to welcome immigrants to this country if they follow those laws?

Just what would you call someone who waits in the immigration line to get here legally? A fool?

bayourod is Free Republic's resident pro-open borders, pro-illegal immigration cheerleader. In bayourod's eyes, Americans who are opposed to illegal immigration are racist and xenophobic.
