Mystery surrounds those who jumped (From the Towers)

NEW YORK Three years later, they remain open questions, and many people wonder if firm answers would lead to more pain or less, to practical lessons for society or to simply a spectacle for the morbidly curious. . How many people jumped from the upper floors of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11? . Why did so many more people jump from the north tower than the south? . What floors did they come from? . Who were they? . The attack on the World Trade Center was one of the most observed catastrophes in history, and those who fell or dropped from the towers were, briefly, its most public victims. They emerged one or two at a time from a blanket of smoke and fire that rendered mass death virtually invisible. Nearly all the others killed that day - whether high in the towers, on board the hijacked airplanes or deep inside the Pentagon - were beyond the sight of survivors and witnesses. Those who came through the windows of the towers provided the starkest, most harrowing evidence of the desperate conditions inside.

Since then, though, they have largely vanished from consideration. Newspapers rarely publish images of the falling people. Evacuation studies are based on interviews with survivors. The 9/11 commission, which has compiled the most detailed history of the day, mentioned those who jumped only as they affected the people on the streets below.

This isn't right. The horror is the reason we need to remember.

I believe they had no choice. Regardless, one cannot fault them for they could not have expected jihadists to slit the throats of stewards, stewardesses, passengers and pilots so they could attack the World Trade Center.

I don't know if the victims families know and it is kept private (as it should be)...I just know I won't forget the atrocity visited on these innocents.May God rest their souls and comfort those who mourn.

....I believe they had no choice.....

I submit they made a terribly horrible choice..... burn in agony or jump.

Seeing those poor souls...most horrible thing ever!

A friend's husband was at WTC #7 that day. A body that hits concrete that hard, splatters. He recalls having to step over body parts and gore while getting away.

Never again

Personally, I believe they jumped because the floor behind them was collapsing into an abyss of fire and smoke.

This is based on a small knowledge of the physical situation (the WTC towers were like a stack of bicycle wheels, with steel beams for spokes, and the floors held up by those beams) and the effort to answer this question: what would motivate me to jump into freefall, when I don't believe in suicide?

Neil Cavuto said today that we NEED to see the horrifying results from the towers. To put a warning up for everyone to decide, but we need to see the horror.

Seeing is believing........and not seeing, one can only wonder. If all the photos were put to the public, then we would REALLY be damn mad!

America has been spared of the bloodbath that occurred outside of the WTC that day. We are told that it is "out of respect" for the privacy of the families. The media does not show this same respect to the bodies of our dead soldiers.

I had the misfortune of witnessing them firsthand. I averted my eyes as soon as I realized that it was human beings, not parts of the building, that were falling. It is not something you ever forget, and it should make every American burn with vengeance against the worthless scum who perpetrated this. It is still not clear to me why we as a nation are not united in wanting to obliterate anyone who sympathized with or supported this depravity.

In this moment of hysteria, they probably felt that there MUST be some large cushion or fire rescue airpad of some sort since it had been a long time. They may not have been able to see the street or could not tell if they had nets/airpads down there. With the fire and heat getting to levels where they were near death, they jumped hoping that at the bottom, they will be saved by airpads.

I tend to think that most of these murder victims did not make a conscious decision about jumping.

When you put your hand on a hot surface, you instantly pull it back.

I think the office workers were 'pushed' out as well, when the plane went into the towers.

The images of the Holocaust are upsetting as well yet we see them so that we can understand at least some of the tragedy that the people endured.

It doesn't matter who they were. They were seen, and everyone knows why they jumped or fell.

the morbidly curious

There are not enough pejorative words to express my contempt for anyone who waves off the need to remember the horror as morbid curiosity.

England is permitting a publicly advertised Islamofascist rally celebrating the 9-11 attacks.
