Well, this is one of 3 most likely scenarios:

1) Above Ground Nuclear Test, done intentionally above ground for maximum effect internationally. However this is still unlikely due to the long term issues from radiation etc.... But it cannot be ruled out.

2) An accident with a nuclear device... a very real possibility. Lets face it this is N. Korea we are talking about.

3) Some other large industrial explosion.

And a less likely but still possible explination:

Sabotage/Insurgency.


If it was indeed a nuclear explosion of some sort, evidence will be detectable already downwind from the explosion if anyone is looking.
