CBS *PREPARING* for havoc? (CBS's own web page on controversy born 9/6, two days before interview!)

FReepers,

I first must say how impressed I am (not to mention thankful) for Howlin and Buckhead, and all others who broke this story before anyone else, including Drudge, et el.

I stated this (gasp) Vanity thread as I believe I have found evidence of premeditation on the part of CBS.

I am particularly suspicious of a CBS web page with the title:

"More Controversy Over Bush Docs"

Once clicking on the link, you should see up in your address bar the following:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/09/06/politics/main641481.shtml

My eyes latched onto the date in the URL -- 2004/09/06 (the 6th was last Monday). Why would a story that didn't break until late Wednesday, right here on FR, have a URL with last Monday's date, on -- of all web sites -- CBS' OWN WEB SITE?!

Did CBS create and begin preparation on a web page last Monday, to get a jumpstart in the event they would be found out?

The screen capture below shows that the document was last updated on September 11, 2004 at 19:47:57. However, the URL in the same screen capture would lead one to believe that the web page was created on September 6 (last Monday) -- two full days before Rather's interview aired.

I pondered....

Perhaps all stories are stored in folders on CBS' server with a date that always begins on Monday (since Monday is the first work day of each week).

I quickly found this wasn't the case. There are many stories on CBS' server where 2004/09/11 or 2004/09/10, etc. can be found in the URL. These dates did not fall on Mondays.

The docs were sent to the WH at least one day before the story aired, and some reports have the forgeries in CBS hands as long as 6 weeks ago. So it is entirely consistent for them to have started a story early in the week, even though the broadcast didn't occur until later in the week.

I believe they set it up knowing full well there would be controversy regarding the documents, but they thought it would be the type of controversy that would bring down a president.

I'm sure Karl Rove is behind it.

You think it's common to prepare a story saying that people think your documents are forgeries before anyone has made such an allegation?

Ask and ye might receive. I don't know if the following is what you wanted.

Well almost, as CBS won't let Kerry link to the documents... I won't either. I haven't had time to read the documents.

For the edification of anyone of interest. FCC rule provide that the public may access anything from the Internet, unless there is a banner (none at this time) or a strong indication such as Password Etc to access data. In that case, one might be in trouble if caught. So don't "break into" anything on the WW.

Use your inginuity to search for, locate, paste edit or whatever and locate the following:

/htdocs/pdf/Bush_Military_01.pdf
/htdocs/pdf/Bush_Military_02.pdf
/htdocs/pdf/Bush_Military_03.pdf
/htdocs/pdf/Bush_Military_04.pdf
/htdocs/pdf/Bush_Military_05.pdf
/htdocs/pdf/Bush_Military_06.pdf

All the documents 1-5, to CBS credit, were placed on their server on or about Feb. 11, 2004 depending on the time set on their server. The last document "Dental" was placed there on Feb. 12, 2004. Doc 1 is titled Memo, Doc 2 Personnel Card, Doc 3 & 4 Service Record, Doc 5 Pay record and Doc 6 Dental

None of the dates, where available, on the server bears the Sept 6 date of infamy. I have not downloaded the PDF files and reviewed them.

These documents should be downloaded and stored on a number of PC to preclude alteration and removal.

...AND you may want to rummage around at http://www.archive.org/web/web.php to see if files you need are there. Nothing really ever disappears off of the WWW. Even residual data are stored on search engine databses.

Have fun
