While the ban was a significant legislative victory for Feinstein, it had enormous political consequences for Democrats -- and, critics say, little practical effect.
At least 20 congressional Democrats who voted in favor of the bill, including House Speaker Tom Foley, went down to defeat in 1994, paving the way for the Republican takeover of both houses of Congress for the first time in 40 years.
Ten years later, Republicans still control both houses of Congress, and the party completed its sweep when George W. Bush was elected president in 2000. Campaigning that year, Bush said he supported reauthorization of the ban, but as president has never pushed Congressional leaders to move the legislation.
California and other more urban states, including Massachusetts, New York and Hawaii, have passed their own laws curbing the use of assault weapons.

Clinton's AWB was the best friend of Republicans ... look what it did for Congress and the Presidency. It was probably Karl Rove's idea.
The assault-gun ban is just example of democRats riding roughshod on the public...forcing them to lose rights and self-respect, implying the public lacks the competence to use guns responsibly.
Is it any wonder that what the public thinks of democrats is unspeakable and unprintable?
The Democrats are bound by several group ideals:
Lying, cheating, and stealing is the way to success.
If one buries his head deeply enough in sand the problems of life disappear.
America is a wonderful country in which you can "vote yourself some money".
They are a collection of misfits barely qualified to walk on the planet.
What they fail to realize is that America has been and always will be a place that is not for the faint of heart.

Note to Bill Jones: If you believe in the 2nd Amendment, hit Boxer HARD and hit her OFTEN with her stance on gun control! You just might find yourself in Washington D.C. in 2005!
The RATS are so involved with the communists they can't avoid these embarassments to them. They would rather destroy themselves and this country.
That's "gun owners of America," without the capial "G" and "O."
Boxer isn't qualified to flip a burger.
Yes! Excellent observation. Bravo!
Clinton has hurt more people with his cigars than I ever did with my assault rifles.
Anyone know how I can write the SF paper. I live in Sacramento and would like to inform them that the Dems lost power partly due to this bill and they lost the extention of it by reaching for more. Didn't they try to add other language to it and it got killed? Like gun show stuff?- thnx

I'll never forget when Diane handed the Chief of Police a loaded revolver at city hall with the cameras rolling during her turn-in campaign in SF.
Like Kerry running on his Vietnam service, Feinstein has made gun control the engine of her political career.
He sure is with his "Hunter's Bill of Rights." I guess he's never read the United States Constitution. This doofus is dangerous.
BTTT

What they forget...
---"But the bottom line is the rights of the majority are more important than the whims of a selfish minority." ---
These rights are INDIVIDUAL rights.
If that's true, she should have been arrested. She broke the law.

Like every good liberal, the rules you have to follow don't apply to her. She had a very very rare California CCW permit. I believe the story continues that after the cameras quit filming, she reached right back and grabbed her gun!
Great post. The liberals and demo-commies need to go to that ficticious utopia where they can have that electric kool-aide induced kinder&gentler world.
I heard boxer likes to visit the Y like reno. Boxer is a piece of work employed in the communist party.
