Technically, the Air National Guard is a part of the Air Force.
The DNC is really stepping in this because the same can be used against Kerry who technically signed up for the Navy Reserves, not active Navy. Both men served in their respective service branches. Any attempt to say otherwise will only damage the DNC as being ignorant of anything military.
