Dems/Kerry running a Sonny Liston campaign - taking a dive. Why? (can you spell Hillary?)

As Drudge points out today, the Dems are again highlighting Bush's National Guard record. This is the kind of "character" issue you use against a first-time candidate, to sow doubts about whether he can serve in office. You don't run this stuff against an incumbent, who's already shown he can serve in office. So WHY are they harping on irrelevancies from the distant past?

Doesn't this look more and more like they're deliberately trying to THROW THE ELECTION? TAKING A DIVE?

If that's so, who gains? Isn't it the front-runner for the Dem nomination in 08? Yes, her name begins with H and her moniker rhymes with "witch".

Taking a Dive. I'm getting the same crawling feeling. I think we will win this election, but the RNC better keep watch on Hill and the gang so they don't succeed in 2008.

Or is it simply because Kerry has no Senate record, his Nam service is in the toilet and they've just got to attack a 30 year old record of the incumbent. I think that's all they're holding.

I'm sure that may be the Dems reason, but I doubt Kerry is going down on purpose.

The man is nothing, if not, a control freak and winning the presidency is something he definately would not 'throw' no matter who wants the '08 run.

Hillary cannot win a national election. She will run on healthcare but that won't save her. Didn't she try to "fix" healthcare ?

Hmmmm….
08/24/04 – A HOLLYWOOD fundraiser who organised events featuring such celebrities as former US president Bill Clinton was today jailed for more than five years for fraud. Aaron Tonken, 38, was sentenced to 63 months behind bars after admitting fraudulently diverting hundreds of thousands of dollars destined for charity galas and using the cash to pay off his own credit card bills. <…snip…>During his time as a top fundraiser, Tonken helped arrange events for Mr Clinton and his wife, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton in August 2000. Tonken struck a secret plea deal with prosecutors that resulted in today's sentencing by US District Judge Dale Fischer in Los Angeles.

Hollywood Charity Man Jailed

Now…keep in mind the “secret plea deal” and read these stories:

04/19/04 - The Federal Election Commission has opened a formal probe into a star-studded Aug. 12, 2000 Hollywood fundraiser for then-first lady Hillary Clinton's Senate campaign, Fox News Channel reported on Sunday. And some say the development is at least partly responsible for Sen. Clinton's claim that she's not interested in joining John Kerry's presidential ticket.

The allegations themselves are not new: Two of the event's organizers, Hollywood producer Peter Paul and charity fundraiser Aaron Tonken, have detailed a series of transactions undertaken in conjunction with Hillary's campaign that could violate FEC regulations, with Paul charging that the campaign failed to report nearly $2 million he spent producing the event.

But months before Paul was returned to the U.S. to stand trial in the stock case, Hollywood fundraiser Aaron Tonken began cooperating with federal probers. Tonken has said that he's a star witness against the Clintons in a federal grand jury probe in New York into Mr. Clinton's Marc Rich pardon - and has been cooperating with the U.S. attorney in Los Angeles who's probing his fundraising activities.

FEC Heat Hurts Hillary's VP Chances

New York Sen. Hillary Clinton surely hopes that history isn't repeating itself with the raid conducted by the FBI last month on another warehouse; this one chock full of documents from her 2000 Senatorial campaign.

"The documents were seized in a May 30 raid of a California storage facility containing documents of Peter Paul, the entrepreneur who funded Hillary Clinton's Senate campaign with over $2 million dollars in direct, in-kind contributions which were never reported by Hillary Clinton or her Senate campaign, as required by law," revealed the public interest law firm Judicial Watch in a press release late last week.

FBI Raids Hillary's Warehouse in Whitewater Deja Vu

The Bush administration has quietly done an about-face on allegations that New York Sen. Hillary Clinton broke campaign finance laws in 2000 - with the Justice Department preparing to extradite one-time Clinton fund-raiser Peter Paul to the U.S. as part of a plea deal for his testimony. The sudden action on Paul's case comes just weeks after reports surfaced that former Hollywood fund-raiser Aaron Tonken has supplied damaging testimony about Hillary Clinton's fund-raising practices.

"I'm a star witness against President and Mrs. Clinton," Tonken claimed in a recent report on his case in Vanity Fair magazine, explaining that prosecutors wanted his testimony about" "fundraising activities that I've done on behalf of the Clintons." The exact nature of Tonken's allegations against Sen. Clinton remains secret, the magazine said. But the celebrity moneyman is known to have been involved in the August 2000 fund raiser that is at the heart of Peter Paul's allegations.

The End of Hillary Clinton

Peter F. Paul, the flamboyant Hollywood entrepreneur who says Hillary Rodham Clinton has hidden almost $2 million of in-kind contributions he made to her campaign in 2000, is back from Brazil and promising to raise a ruckus about the New York senator as he fights bizarre securities and bank-fraud charges on which he's been indicted. Aaron Tonken, a political operative in Hollywood and a former protégé of Paul under indictment for a variety of alleged sharp deals with the rich and famous, also is promising to tell everything he knows about behind-the-scenes shenanigans of Clinton and many others.

Clintons' Fall Guy May Turn the Tables (Peter Paul)

Mr. Paul has substantial, documentary evidence detailing his close relationship with the Clintons and his funding of the Hollywood tribute, including cancelled checks, hand-written thank you notes from the Clintons, and photographs. Also named in the complaint is Clinton fundraiser David Rosen, Clinton friend James Levin, and Hollywood celebrity fundraiser Aaron Tonken, who currently is under criminal investigation for his role in other Hollywood fundraisers. As a result of Mr. Paul’s disclosures, federal authorities have launched an investigation into the Clintons and other matters. Mr. Paul, who is facing alleged (and related) stock and bank fraud charges, remains eager to cooperate with federal authorities.

I agree that Kerry is not throwing the race. The other prospect is more frightening for a Presidential candidate-that Dufus is too dumb to realize that other people are making sure that he loses.

Please..let's not write off Kerry this early. This confidence is scaring me. Maybe we are being set up with the polls. Always be wary, remember they are coming from the MEDIA!!

> THROW THE ELECTION? TAKING A DIVE?

According to the Clinton Sabotage Theory, Kerry always
has been the Designated Loser for 2004, even if he
still doesn't know it.

However, there's a problem. If this turns into a landslide,
the Dems could lose so much control that they cannot
prevent electoral reform, forestall phasing out the
government schools (vouchers), controlling judgeships,
outlawing the collapse of the legacy media, and
everything else they need in 2008 to prevail at the
ballot box.

So there really is an effort underway to help improve
Kerry's chances, but not actually win.

Oh no Mr. Hill!

Actually I don't doubt who plans for '08. I hope old Bubba doesn't kick the bucket between now and then. Can you imagine the sympathy vote factor for a widowed Hillary. GAG

RNC had better get the right person to run against the hag.

I posted this on another thread, but I think it's relevant here with respect to why the Kerry-ites are flogging this Guard issue:

Here's the deal: Kerry and the Dems are totally unprincipled vermin. They know nothing of honesty, decency, or honor. They do know that their boy got knocked down a couple of pegs by the Swiftvets and their attacks on Kerry's phony-war-hero shtick.

The problem is that because they lack a moral compass, they can't see their way clear of the mess they've made for themselves. They mistakenly think the problem is that Kerry didn't go on the attack against the Swiftees soon enough. Whereas the problem is actually that Kerry is a contemptible fraud.

Nevertheless, in their own view, they figure if it worked against Kerry, it will work against the President. So they plan on attacking President Bush on his Guard service, on the contention that he wore a ribbon he didn't deserve, and on the claim that he was in the Air Force, but the Dems say he lied.

What idiots! Keep digging. They just don't get it.

President Bush IS honorable. There is no reason for him to be ashamed of his guard service, he was a fighter pilot, he earned the ribbons he wore, he was in the Air Force while on active duty in pilot training.

The Dems learned the wrong lesson. They think they learned to go on the attack. What they should have learned is don't nominate a fraud.

This would be a bad idea. They cannot get the media to spin things for them now to the extent they did in the past. Throwing the election may well give Bush long coattails which means pickups in the house and senante. Bush will push a conservative agenda through, appoint federal judges and get them confirmed. If Bush can get enough judges appointed, it's game over for the libs for the next 60 years or so.

No, that is a nightmare that the dems are trying to prevent. They just do not know how to go about it with the blogs and internet countering the media spin. Conservatives know how to articulate ideas (just look at some of the posts in this forum). Liberals do not (look at DU). If Bush has long coattails, there will be no 2008 for hillary in my opinion.

Ah, yes, it all has to be finely calibrated - - - this bears all the hallmarks of a master criminal/manipulative mind. I won't write the name, because it should be obvious.

Consider this: The long-range success of the Democrats will not be served by a Kerry victory this year. If Kerry wins, it is unlikely that the the Democrats will pick up either house of Congress in '06. Plus, I'm convinced Kerry would be such a weak president, he'd likely be only a one-termer. But if Bush wins, the Dems probably figure they can stonewall any truly conservative judicial nominees for another four years, and the Dems stand a better (theoretical) chance of winning one or both houses of Congress in '06, and the path would be open for Hillary in '08 (the Democrats' wet dream!).

As much as some rank-and-file Dems might abhore the thought, the Dems are better served if Bush wins this year.

Kerry is more surprised than anybody to still be in the campaign at this late date. He has no major issues of his own and had expected to bow out after spending [distributing] a few $ million of early donations. The ones doing his campaigning--the ones who apparently hibernate between elections--are doing what they know to replace the lack of a strong suit, which isn't much.

nominating kerry was spectacularly stupid. one day, he was the butt of jokes in iowa and NH, and the next thing you know, howard dean has exploded, and the big bunny-suit-wearin'-feeb is the nominee. if I was a democrat, I would feel pretty manipulated right now. and kerry should have realized that the fix was in with terry mcauliff at the help of the DNC.
