Kennedy is Confident Kerry Will Right His Ship
The New York Times ^ | September 14, 2004 | CARL HULSE

Senator Edward M. Kennedy says he is not too worked up about the shape of the presidential race right now despite the fact that his junior colleague from Massachusetts is trailing in the polls.

Meeting with reporters this morning, Mr. Kennedy, an ally of Senator John Kerry, exhibited his long memory about political events. He recalled that the polls were swinging wildly in the 1968 race between Richard M. Nixon and Hubert H. Humphrey and that Mr. Humphrey gained 10 points in a matter of days as the race went into the final stretch, though he ultimately lost a close decision.

"I think it is just a question of time," Mr. Kennedy said about the prospects of Mr. Kerry righting his ship.

And he did what he could to try to help, reiterating his new line of attack that the Bush administration is guilty of "incompetence" when it comes to Iraq as well as its handling of the economy and health care costs. The senior senator from Massachusetts also referred to criticism of the military strategy in Iraq from outgoing Lt. Gen. James T. Conway, a senior Marine commander, reported this week by The Washington Post.

"This is the beginning of the military leadership questioning the political leadership," Mr. Kennedy said.

Oh, indeed. Because the junior senator has demonstrated impeccable timing so far, hasn't he?--and time is on the junior senator's side, isn't it? I mean, who wouldn't want this man, this small and indecisive wreck of a man, to assume the supreme seat of this, our tottering republic, in a time of war and uncertainty. I ask you, who?

"Kennedy is Confident Kerry Will Right His Ship"

Uhh ... the same way Teddy righted his own ship in 1980 when he fumbled away the Democratic nomination in one television interview? [Of course, as your photo shows, Kennedy has a lot of "ballast" in the hull -- but it didn't help him 24 years ago.]

These moron New England liberals (Kennedy, Dukakis, Kerry) just don't realize that their message only works in Massachusetts. They win by large majorities, and combined with fawning adulation by the NYT, Wash Post, and international media, they think that they represent America.

But then again, I'd prefer they stay in denial for as long as they like. Both Presidents Bush will have been the beneficiaries of running against Massachusetts liberals.

'Uh, John,John, uh, I wouldn't get my hopes up!'

Talk about back handed support.

LOL!

Is that a Swiftboat, or a 1969 Oldsmobile U-Boat?

Um, Ted, I'm not sure that's a good analogy for you...

But then again, considering what you named your dog, you couldn't care less, could you?

Humphrey was a more likable person than Kerry, and there was a major third-party candidate in the race, George Wallace, who wound up with almost 10 million votes (more than 10% of the total)...how much of Humphrey's last-minute surge came from Wallace supporters who decided not to throw their vote away on someone who couldn't win?
