Congressman Christopher Cox Requests Congressional Hearing on CBS Memogate
Hugh Hewitt Program ^ | 9/14/04 | Hugh Hewitt

Posted on 09/14/2004 6:49:16 PM PDT by So Cal Rocket

Following his appearance on the Hugh Hewitt program ths evening, Congressman Cox sent a letter to Congressman Fred Upton, Chair of the Subcommittee of Telecommunications and the Internet, of which Cox is a member. The letter reads in part:

"Dear Chairman Upton:

This is a request that you commence a Subcommittee investigation into the continued use by CBS News of apparently forged documents concerning the service record of President George W. Bush intended to unfairly damage his reputation and influence the outcome of the 2004 presidential election.

In February 2001, the Energy & Commerce Committee held hearings calling the television networks to account for irresponsibly (and inaccurately) calling the outcome of the presidential election in Florida before the polls had closed. At those hearings, CBS News vowed that the competitive drive to get the story first would be subordinated to 'making sure we are correct,' given that the stakes --the outcome of the presidential election-- were so high....

Despite the growing abundance of the evidence that CBS News has aided and abetted fraud, the network has declined to reveal the source of the disputed documents. USA Today possesses the same documents, obtained independently from a person representing them to be authentic, and likewise is refusing to disclose his identity.

Given the shortness of time between now and the election which the apparent fraud is meant to influence, and the even shorter time before Congress is scheduled to adjourn, I strongly urge that the Subcommittee move with all deliberate speed to uncover the facts.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter within the Subcommittee's jurisdiction.

Sincerely,

Christopher Cox

U.S. Representative"

I thought I saw a complaint from Upton to the FCC against CBS today as well.

Very interesting.

As much fun as this sounds, will this really help our cause? Couldn't CBS turn this into a "Republicans are trying to silence the press" campaign? Seems to me we're doing okay with this story as it is.

Now this issue has some real teeth.

I believe a similar issue should be raised with the FEC.

I had the same thought. If we had better attack dogs, countering a charge such as that then we should go forward with an investigation, but we have pansies that will let them dems and cbs say what they will.

Mrs. Heinz-Kerry and her connection to The Tides Foundation is not ‘new‘ news. The Tides Foundation’s connection to moveon.org isn’t breaking news, either. Nor is moveon.org’s connection to Texans for Truth. What is lesser known is the Communist Party’s willingness to back Kerry in this election. They’ve encouraged their members to vote for him instead of their own candidate. Their sole reason? Getting rid of President Bush. The W.W.W.P. (The Socialist Party) openly brags of infiltrating the unions. They brag about having Party members placed in positions to negotiate contracts for union memberships. Many of the people who give money to these organizations and political parties are common to all of them as financial endorsers - except for The Tides Foundation. They’ve created a loophole. It’s called the Tides Center. Many of these individuals and organizations also finance International A.N.S.W.E.R., Greenpeace, and other such political activism. CBS has some members of the Communist Party employed in rather high places as well. A comparative analysis between “The Communist Manifesto” and the current mission statements of several known groups and political parties is also in order. Pop Quiz: Guess whose philanthropic trust is financing, in part or in whole, all of these rabidly anti-American groups, lobbyists, PAC’s, and parties? Hint: The AFL-CIO is technically not a trust.

You don’t have to believe me. Do your own research.

It's rare to see Republicans go in for the kill like this.

If ever there was a legitimate reason for the Republicans to go after something, this is it -- forging the military documents of a sitting President to skew an election is serious stuff. Someone ought to tell Dan Rather.

The best outcome for the RNC and GWB is for everybody to ignore CBS. As tempting as it is to move in, now is not the time. If Congressional hearings are started, this story occupies the news cycle. CBS can just dummy up, and be -OUR- tar baby, just as the Swiftees are Kerry's tar baby.

The First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States was written to defend EVERYBODY's right to POLITICAL speech.

It said nothing about the speech having to be truthful or not.

If we allow congress (skuzz-ball attorneys) to get their hands on this they will be further destroying the Constitution - all with the nodding-approval of the high court "Masters" (even skuzzier lawyers).

If anything congress needs to do is to ENFORCE the seperation of powers and kick out ALL of those skuzzball attorneys out of the legislative & executive branches, and keep them in the judicial as demanded in our Constitution.

Our forefathers couls see what would happen if the seperations of powers were lost ... the lawyers destroying the country's freedoms and economy.
