The First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States was written to defend EVERYBODY's right to POLITICAL speech.
It said nothing about the speech having to be truthful or not.
If we allow congress (skuzz-ball attorneys) to get their hands on this they will be further destroying the Constitution - all with the nodding-approval of the high court "Masters" (even skuzzier lawyers).
If anything congress needs to do is to ENFORCE the seperation of powers and kick out ALL of those skuzzball attorneys out of the legislative & executive branches, and keep them in the judicial as demanded in our Constitution.
Our forefathers couls see what would happen if the seperations of powers were lost ... the lawyers destroying the country's freedoms and economy.
While I don't like government interference, I believe that it will be necessary to get the law involved. Otherwise Rather will simply stick to his guns until the issue blows over.
Rather cannot defend the indefensible. Something's gotta give...
I hope they go for it from every angle there is, this is really series.
As much fun as this sounds, will this really help our cause? Couldn't CBS turn this into a "Republicans are trying to silence the press" campaign? ___________________________________________________________
I do not know, I am waiting to let Rather tell me tomorrow
All I can say is that "when your enemy is making a fool of himself, don't interfere."

As it is CBS is under increasing pressure and Memogate won't die. Let the network sharks eat one of their own, they are doing a pretty good job at it.
As it is, Memogate is ONLY hurting CBS, not the President. The second Congress gets involved the left will invoke images of the Clinton impeachment and fire up their base.
At this point, who give a rip what CBS does?
I agree. I think it ever came to it, CBS would do something liberals are good at -- play the victim or martyr card.
Agree. Cox is all aces as far as I'm concerned. CA may have two of the most liberal Senators in Boxer and Feinstein, but also sends a whole host of sharp, conservative Reps to the House. An excellent argument for the bicameral legisature.
I am sure that Christopher Cox would not have proposed this if he had not first run it by the people at the RNC and BC'04.
I loathe CBS. We're winning the PR war with them right now. I don't want to give them a chance to recover. Believe me, if there ever are hearings, I would love to see Rather reduced to a quivering bowl of jelly.
I've been wondering why this wasn't done. Glad to see at least one is on the ball.
Thanks! Glad I checked.I just came from Hugh Hewitt's site and I was just about to post it here. This is great news! I feel very encouraged.
Those forgeries are criminal and the perpetrators need to go to prison!
On with the investigation!
With any luck Rather will be caught up in the net and win prison time!!!!!!
I dunno. That was my first reaction. Now I am decidely confused and incertain about how to handle the situation. CBS's obstinance changes things.
So, is it a big deal if CBS News becomes the equivalent of Air America? For all practical purposes, their action over the past 6 days has announced precisely that, they are not interested in truth, but in agitprop, political propaganda disguised as news.
I'm not eager to start Congressional action now. Memogate could become a sort of tar-baby for the Republicans. Might be best to leave CBS with ridicule and whatever audience they can draw, as a "news" operation that is managed in fact by the DNC.
Since public broadcasting is licensed they do have certain obligations to separate personal opinions from hard news. They haven't had to do that in a long time. Well that changed this last week.
This is not a fishing expedition. After that hint from the RNC about CBS's documents coming from the DNC, I think they have some information they want made public.
Perhaps not EVERYONE at CBS is a Kerry supporter. There are lots of secretaries, clerks, mail-room people who know things. And there are the younger reporters who might not want to go down with the ship.
I really like the idea of swearing Rather in on live TV and making him take the 5th amendment.
