I saw the Sex Pistols' 20th anniversary tour (they toured again 5 years later). Several of the band members became noted session players and greatly honed their skills.

I would recommend viewing the documentary on the recording of the Never Mind The Bollocks album (originally produced for VHI I believe but greatly expanded on DVD). It is probably available through Netflix (I own a copy).

They play the original tracks (single performer, singer, guitar, multilayer guitar, etc.) They hold up.

Were they punk? The lyrics and stance made them so but they could just be considered rock and roll.

Never Mind the Bollocks is one of the all-time great r&r albums, along with the first three Ramones LPs and the first Damned LP. Milestones of punk!
