(CNSNews.com) - Two Republican lawmakers, Rep. Christopher Cox of California and Rep Roy Blunt of Missouri, are formally complaining about CBS News's reporting on George W. Bush's National Guard record. "We are writing to express our dismay that CBS has become part of a campaign to deceive the public and to defame the president," Blunt wrote in a letter to CBS, which was signed by 39 congressional colleagues.
Blunt wants CBS to retract the story.
Rep. Christopher Cox wrote a letter to Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.), chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Telecommunications, asking him to investigate "the continued use by CBS News of apparently forged of documents concerning the service record of President George W. Bush intended to unfairly damage his reputation and influence the outcome of the 2004 presidential election."
"Despite the growing abundance of evidence that CBS News has aided and abetted fraud, the network has declined to reveal the source of the disputed documents. USA Today possesses the same documents, obtained independently from a person representing them to be authentic, and likewise is refusing to disclose his identity," Cox said in the letter to Upton.
According to Thursday's Washington Post, Rep. Joe Barton (R-Tex.), chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, has rejected Cox's call for a congressional probe of CBS.
So has House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who -- according to Thursday's Washington Times -- lashed out at Republicans for going after CBS.
"The Republicans' latest attempt to intimidate the news media is a waste of taxpayer money and an egregious example of how this Republican House only exercises its oversight responsibility for partisan political reasons," the Washington Times quoted the California Democrat as saying.
"Clearly, Republicans will stop at nothing to distract the public from their miserable record," Pelosi added.

I wish House Republicans had just stayed away from the story altogether. The media was doing a fine job of eating its own; why give them another target?
This is why some members of the GOP drive me nuts...their tactics are horrible.

Oh, STFU, Nancy-you are totally out of touch with reality...

This is exactly the spin O'R put on the attempts to force Rather to tell the truth.

Their bias is leading to a reaction among the American people. That's the reaction they should worry about.

Wasn't Pelosi one of the driving forces attempting to "investigate" FOX News a year or so ago?

Expecting FCC-licensed Media outlets to tell the truth during their news broadcasts is unreasonable.
Efforts to find out the truth are always partisan.
The truth cannot be known, so one news story is as good as another.
Fact-checking is a plot against America.

Replace CBS with Rush Limbaugh in the GOP letter and see how fats Nancy changes her frequency.

So pointing out mistakes and obvious forgeries qualifies as "intimidation"? Beam me up.

Oh, that is SO intimidating! That's almost as bad as somebody killing your cat. Oh, that's right, it doesn't count when a democrat is doing the intimidation.

Typical democrat. (criminal activity) Dan Rather trying to pass off forged military documents that a dead man was supposed to have written thirty plus years ago and attempted to influence a presidential election on national TV.
The U. S. attorney General should be involved not congress.

One by one they will step up to the mike and speak about right wing attacks from the Republican party.
They still have no idea were they are really taking fire from! The can not grasp the concepts of blog. No longer can they control what the people hear or see just by holding a news conference or issuing a statement from DNC head quarters. They have lost control of informationspeak! The truth can be found, and it can spread faster than their lawyers and issue a warrant to shut up.
They can not make us quiet. They can not make us stop. They can not find us to send protesters or thugs because we are New Media. The power of one person, seeking the truth, can be dynamically multiplied my millions. They can can't stand it. We move, think and react faster.
Then only thing they can do now, is face the truth. If they spin, lie or cheat, they know that in less that 24 hours they can have a nightmare on their hands.
