More people need to view gun control for what it really is ... rights and responsibilities ... the essence of freedom itself.

Ms. Feinstein's face makes me sick to my stomach.
The issue which divides Republicans and Democrats isn't just gun control - its far more expansive than that.
Republicans, for the most part, believe in a strict interpretation of the Constitution, while pistol-packing hypocrits like Ms. Feinstein believe in liberal appointed judges who should have the power to reinterpret the Constitution in whatsoever way they choose, which of course, makes the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the writings of our Founding Fathers just so much quaint expensive toilette paper.
But that's a distinction obviously wasted on the obtuse editors of yellow journals like the L.A. Times.
Personally, I trust John Adams, Munroe, Madison, Jefferson and Washington far more than Ms. Feinstein and her leftist ilk.
It's too bad we don't have marksmanship courses for all high school children. That could reshape a whole generation of minds.
Lets get down even more, what could we do if twenty strikes at schools were occurring throughout America? Would you rather have your kids in a school where teachers had access to weapons, or where weapons could only be carried in by terrorists?
No matter how you turn it, the answer is more weapons in the hands of the law abiding "good guys". the criminals already know how they are going to get guns, (and its not just loopholes, they will have guns even if every legal way to get a gun is banned. They are "criminals" for ****sake.)
Except for the first amendment. They're a little unclear about the issue of constiutional privacy, as well. But Reagan and GW both have had fairly enlightened views the two subjects, I would say.
I caught some of dennis millers program yesterday. It bugs me when gun ignorant people (he obviously is one of them) start spouting about gun rights. The old stand by "why would anyone need an AK 47 anyhow?". I wish these fools would educate themselves about the issue and the constitution before they start monotoning the gun grabbers talking points.
Heck when I was in high school, my double 12 went to class, so we could hunt on the way home. And yes it was in a moderate sized city. All that was asked is the gun be kept in a locker. Good idea, that way it didn't get stolen.
We rode the rural route school bus out to the country, free ride, so we could hunt on the walk home :-}

Wanna change hearts and minds? Take somebody who hates or fears guns to the gun range. Point out the range rules and the fact that the rangemaster is GOD when you're there. Show them proper use and technique in firearms operation and control. Then let them shoot up a bunch of ammo.
I've done this several times with people who believed that Americans don't have any use for guns, including my wife. Changed every one of their minds. Hehe, they loved it! Turns out my wife is a pretty good shot, too :) Uh-oh, better stay on her good side, I know ;)

I think liberal Democrats have as much of a problem with that also.
Anything which can remotely be interpreted as a politcally incorrect statement can result in social stigmatization or worse.
Clearly both parties fall short of perfection, but the Dems are so far divorced from Constitutional realities that there is no realistic comparison between the two on this subject.
Where in the Constitution is there is anything about privacy - aside from the Fourth Amendment concerning search and seizure - which is I agree, a problem with respect to law and order people?
Miller is not really a conservative - he's an entertainer who is supporting Bush. I doubt is the nuances of what are involved here are apparent to him.
I'm making the point that liberty can come under fire from anywhere without warning. We're not "safe" on the right, not by any means.

But privacy is discussed in detail throughout the bill of rights! Although I could argue that the first and second amendments have powerful privacy implications, it starts with amendment three on the quartering of soldiers. We have a right to live in our own residencees without troops stomping in and out to live, fight wars, or verify our compliance with state mandates. Amendment four says that we have a right to live in our own homes without unreasonable searches and seizures. Amendment five says we can't be forced to testify against ourselves; in other words, we have mental privacy with respect to the state. Amendments nine and 10 say that the Constitution is the final authority on which the government can take away from the people and the states. Therefore, our personal privacy is protected from the federal government.
The first and second amendments say that the state cannot interfere with our religious beliefs or our preparations for self-defense. Think about that carefully: the state cannot monitor our beliefs. It cannot even violate our right to assemble together in private.
That some "conservatives" even make an issue out of privacy is proof that threats to our freedom lurk in all corners of the nation. But I would argue that they are not conservatives by any real definition of the word. They do not long for the days when sagacious leaders questioned government authority. They do not long for the days when the individual and his personal rights triumphed over the collective wishes of the state.
They are the false conservatives.

I learned to shoot in Grad School (M.I.T.--I doubt they still have the program) but was too poor to buy a gun when I moved to L.A.
During the Rodney King riots, I noted that the Korean shopkeepers who were armed kept their stores; those who were not got looted/demolished.
An interview with a gang member: "Don't you think it is stupid to burn down your own neighborhoods?"
"Yeah. Next time we're comin' to burn down your neighborhood."
I looked at the screen transfixed. I thought: "Come right ahead, friend--we need the target practice."
Then and there I became a "gun nut".

Never can understand the folks that tell Conservatives to leave California.I salute those that stay and think it's worth fighting for.
I hope and pray not in my lifetime.

I'm old and sick and a pistolero when I can. California is basically lost; a suburb of Mexico City. But our rulers are quite capable of starting a little local civil war...and forget that we are the folks who are armed. Or maybe they know it--and that is why they keep ratcheting up the pressure, in boiled-frog manner. Eventually people will notice, and then: oh, brother.
