Illegal immigration will have to capture the imagination of GOP voters in California in general in this election cycle as a seminal issue for it to tank Drier in his district. His opponent is third tier without much money. The district has about a 10% GOP bias. The odds that Drier will lose are low, not impossible, but low. In part it will depend on generic GOP strength in House races, and that number has been deteriorating a bit - but again not by enough. I might note that GOP control of the House might be in some danger absent the Texas sixpack - maybe 35% without it, and 10% with it.

The human sacrifice thing might cost Drier a couple of percent. The show and the station station has influence, but it is more limited in cross conflicted situations (not much of that when it was time for Gray Davis to go against Arnold), and Drier's district has lots of middle class Asians and Hispanics who vote GOP but are not attuned to the human sacrifice message.

It's Dreier. I know, it's an annoyingly hard name. Had to train myself to type it right. Wish the spell check had politician names in it. As for immigrant Asians and Hispanics, most of those in his district not only came here legally, but hate those who break the laws and come here. They're the ones who feel it most directly, from the reactions of people angry at the illegals which rubs onto them, from their kids who are threatened by the illegal gang members, from the illegal Asians who peddle the drugs, from the illegal Hispanics who drive down house values and school quality.

They're the ones who are most angry at school districts which try to teach their kids in Spanish or Mandarin whereas they use English in the home. If their attention comes to focus on Dreier for how he votes, they will flock in droves just to nail him to the wall.

We really need a second choice as a write in for the general election, and we need it now. I don't like voting for democrats, but that's my sole choice at the moment to make a difference.
