EVANSTON (CBS 2) An Evanston school teacher, who is also a teachers union president, is arrested in a Lake County Sheriff's sting operation for allegedly attempting to solicit a child for sex.
This investigation first started when a detective posing as a 15-year-old boy began chatting with the teacher over the Internet. Investigators say those chats eventually turned to talk of sex.
Detectives are saying a lengthy investigation led to his arrest. Robert Carroll, 44, is charged with two counts solicitation of a child after a three-month investigation.
Carroll was arrested Friday morning in a wooded area in Waukegan.
He is a teacher in District 65. It's believed he teaches at Kingsley School on Green Bay Road. Also just last year he was elected as president of the teachers union.
Lake County Sheriff's investigators say they began investigating Carroll in June when a detective met him in a chat room on the Internet. Carroll apparently thought he was talking to a 15-year-old boy.
They say over the course of three months he developed a relationship and began talking about sex with the person he thought was the boy. The two agreed to meet and Carroll was arrested.
His laptop was seized and police conducted a search of his home.
Carroll is being held on $30,000 bond and he is expected to appear in court again on Oct. 6. We have been unable to reach him or the school for comment.
Too bad its from a suspect source.
The story comes from the Lake County Sheriff's Department...the local NBC affiliate has a shorter article about it.
A Democrat. For sure, for sure.
Evanston IL is in the Madison, WI, Amherst, MA, Berkeley, CA shade of Liberal blueness.
Oh great....... I know kids who've gone to this school and who are enrolled there now.
LOL - I got it ;-).
Evanston IL is the Illinois home for fruits and nuts (like certain areas of California). Northwestern U *USED* to be somewhat conservative decades ago when my father attended.... but no more. One of the profs there is Bernadette Dohrn, former domestic terrorist of Weathermen fame.
ping
IL FReeper bump.

Good one. ;)
I have a friend who is on the School Board of District 65. She's gonna love this (NOT)!
If Evanston is so darned progressive, how come this fine, forward-looking teacher had to go troll the 'Net for a catamite instead of just dropping a bar of soap in his classroom and seeing who bent over?
Unbelievable! Does your friend know anything about this animal?
The Right to Rent - Can homosexuals and atheists be barred from church camps?
Excerpt:
By Verla Gillmor | posted 5/10/00
An Illinois church camp is defending their right to deny rental of their facilities to homosexuals while a Kentucky church camp has won a major legislative victory in the two latest skirmishes over civil rights and religious freedom.
Two men in Evanston, Illinois, both Methodists, have sued the Chicago Campground Association for $1 million, saying camp trustees refused to let them buy or continue to rent a camp cottage because they are a homosexual couple. Cottage owners Bob and Nanette Graham have filed a separate lawsuit, accusing camp trustees of trying to evict them because they befriended the two plaintiffs, Robert Carroll and [Carroll's "boyfriend"] Russell Elenz.
The homosexual couple has drawn the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church into the suit, saying the UMC is the true owner of the Historic Methodist Campground. However, trustees of the 140-year-old Des Plaines, Illinois camp say they own the camp and are fighting to maintain legal control of the property.
