Burkett has been spilling his guts to anybody who would listen(google him). Its become a crusade for him to bring down Bush. He of course would be implicated if those documents that were shredded were to suddenly turn up. I think he is the poor schnook that has been offered up by the Rats. His psychological health is so deteriorated that he would not be a viable witness against others involved. I do not think he did the forgeries, but, he knows.

Who ever turned the documents over to CBS is a criminal, and broke about ten Texas laws. I don't think protecting "confidential sources" covers harboring criminals. CBS needs to turn him/her over to the proper authorities.

Very interesting, looks like some investigation being done by MSM. Kudos to Mr. Dobbs.

If it traces back to Burkett and or DNC Rather would be even more discredited than he is now. He has to keep the source confidential or face total ridicule. IMO Like Clinton the best thing to do is tell the truth and plead for mercy.

Question remains, did he supply the information to the Dems or did he supply the actual docs? Kinkos points to him supplying the docs. Rather's unvetted description of the source points to Burkett. Funny if Burkett supplied the docs why he waited until now to do so.why not in 2000? I can't wait to hear that whopper of an explanation.

I find it hard to believe the staff at CBS didn' google the source..they are acting like a prosecutor not wanting to find anything that didn't support their case so they didn't ask questions.

I watched the video of Rather being interviewed where he repeatedly said the story was true. He also said something about waiting years to get the info and then it came. Unbelievable, not to question the timing. He has lost what little sense he had.

"In an Aug. 21 posting, Burkett referred to a conversation with former senator Max Cleland (D-Ga.) about the need to counteract Republican tactics: "I asked if they wanted to counterattack or ride this to ground and outlast it, not spending any money. He said counterattack. So I gave them the information to do it with. But none of them have called me back." Cleland confirmed that he had a two- or three-minute conversation by cell phone with a Texan named Burkett in mid-August while he was on a car ride. He remembers Burkett saying that he had "valuable" information about Bush, and asking what he should with it. "I told him to contact the [Kerry] campaign," Cleland said."

The Washington Post just torched the Kerry Campaign.

In e-mails yesterday to The Washington Post, he said he would speak out "at the appropriate time" but "that time is not now."

In e-mail messages to a Yahoo discussion group for Texas Democrats, Burkett laid out a rationale for using what he termed "down and dirty" tactics against Bush. He said that he had passed his ideas to the Democratic National Committee but that the DNC seemed "afraid to do what I suggest."

In another message, dated Sept. 4, Burkett hinted he might have had advance knowledge of some details in an explosive segment that aired Sept. 8 on CBS's "60 Minutes."

---

** Can anyone check out the yahoo group?**

It looks like he may be a little net saavy - and that could be an opening into his head and what tactics might be afloat.

Fulfilling these requirements is critical to the success of the Veterans Caravan For Senator John Kerry. Your position is vital and we definitely appreciate your involvement. The key to success is communication. 1. Via email keep these following members continually notified of what actions you are taking in behalf of the caravan and when needed , ask for prior permission before taking any actions: Rick Bolanos, email – Rbolanos@v..., Contact # - 915 – 630-3036 Larry Romo, email – LLromo@m..., Contact # - 210-219-1905 Jim Cumming, email – txdemocraticvets@a..., Contact # - 713-863-0433 Do not make any commitments on behalf of the Veterans Caravan until you receive written permission via email from either Rick Bolanos, Larry Romo or Jim Cumming. 2. You are the host for the time we come to your city/town to the point we leave your city/town. It is imperative that we keep to our timeline so your plan for us must keep to the times listed in the schedule. There is no room for flexibility unless there is an extreme emergency beyond human control. 3. Find us a hotel that will house 53 people. Our maximum cost we can spend is $80 per room which would include any city occupancy and state sales tax. We need two separate beds in each room for two vets. To simplify matters get the rooms to be all non-smoking. Any smokers can smoke outside. Do not make a final commitment to any rooms until either Rick Bolanos, Larry Romo or Jim Cumming give the final say in writing to you via email. Please send Rick, Larry and Jim your hotel recommendation with prices, etc., via email by 1 Sep 04. 4. Find us a perferably indoor venue (example: vet hall) to have the veterans rally at. We are concerned with an outdoor venue about the weather. Coordinate with the venue manager all necessary requirements such as a stage, microphone, and chairs for the veterans. You are responsible to set up the entire program within the time specified on our schedule. If possible, try to set up an inexpensive meal after rally for us (donated preferred). For the selected venue, we hope you can solicit local Democrats for donations to cover the expenses or get the venue donated. Your are responsible to advertise the event to draw local and regional veterans to the rally. You may have a copy of our list to search nearby zip codes, locations, etc. We need a lot of vets and also non-veteran TDV members, and others, to show up. Please send Rick, Larry and Jim your tentative venue program by 14 Sep 04, including rally location time, etc., in conformance with our bus itinerary that we have provided you. 5. Please give Larry Romo via email the addresses of the finalized hotel and venue by 16 Sep 04. He will produce a master list of maps for the bus driver and others needing the maps. 6. For his part, Burkett said in an Aug. 25 posting to a different Web site, Online Journal, that he and other researchers had "reassembled" files showing that Bush did not fulfill his oath to obey his superior officers.

Considering Burkett's habit of posting on message boards .. I have a feeling that shouldn't be too hard to tract down

MEDIA ETHICS PROJECT SEEKS FCC RULING AGAINST CBS NEWS FOR RATHERGATE

Media Ethics Project (“MEP”) of New York today petitioned the FCC to sanction CBS News and its parent organization, Viacom, Inc., for its recent broadcast of news reports based on forged documents.

In announcing the FCC filing, MEP Chairman William L. Whitely stated: “Most people familiar with Dan Rather’s reports have seen solid evidence from various credible sources showing the documents to be forged. Yet, day in and day out, CBS has stubbornly continued to maintain that the memos are authentic. This supremely arrogant conduct violates the public trust and FCC rules and policies. Viacom cannot be allowed to flaunt the Commission’s rules in this manner. ”

MEP seeks a ruling by the FCC finding that the deliberate actions of CBS and Viacom maintaining the authenticity of the documents, constitute broadcasting of falsified, faked, distorted or staged news reports in violation of e Commission policies. MEP is asking the FCC to sanction Viacom including imposing fines and ordering forfeiture of one or more broadcast licenses .

Mr. Whitely added that, “This whole episode must be regarded as a remarkable failure of management. It is truly sad that the proud traditions of professionalism of CBS News, the division built by the likes of Morrow, Severeid, Reasoner, Mudd and Cronkite, have been allowed to slowly fade away. In their place is an organization where unprincipled ego, bias, negligence, partisanship and vindictiveness apparently determine the setting of management policy. Such changes are not in the best interest of CBS, the CBS affiliates and CBS shareholders, nor, most certainly, are they in the public interest as well. Staying to this course, the House that Paley Built will likely become the Network that Rather Wrecked.”

MEP has asked that the FCC expedite its consideration of the group’s Petition for Declaratory Ruling against CBS News.

See a full copy of the MEP Petition for Declaratory Ruling at http://mediaethicsproject.blogspot.com/ or www.mediaethics.8k.com

With MEP's filing, the FCC now has a formal Petition to review requesting that CBS be found guilty for violating Commission policy prohibiting the broadcasting of falsified, faked, distorted or staged news reports as contrary to the public interest.

All interested parties will now be able to contact the FCC to request that it take immediate action on the MEDIA ETHICS PROJECT Petition For Declaratory Ruling Against CBS News.

Check out Burkett's "ranch". It is a mobile home in a yard festooned with inoperative vehicles.
