He's following the Reagan philosophy. Americans, (at least the majority) love their country and respond positively to optimism and hope about it's future.

Now they see the 'rats as being nothing but "a real pill".

‘‘The images on the television about Iraq are accentuating the violence. If that continues, and if the negative] economic numbers continue, it’s going to be harder for him to stay on this message of optimism.’’

TV is slanted, the economy is good and there is a typo. Being optimistic is a weird concept to liberals.

Kerry and running mate John Edwards have hit Bush hard on the loss of jobs under his administration;

Our economy was attacked, morons.

Most of America realizes that and doesn't buy into this tired, out-of-date rhetoric...

accused Bush of ignoring rising violence in US cities.

Isn't crime at a 30 year low? The only violent people I've seen in the streets lately were anti-Bush protestors.

Exactly. Its a very uplifting message in these difficult times. We all have problems in our lives without needing to hear that its our fault or that things can't get better. We need to hear we can over come anything and that America's best days are still ahead of her. That's where President Bush is connecting with the American people. We are an exceptional country and in spite of all the bad news we are hearing, in many ways we are better than the rest of the world. Not superior but better. Its a theme the Democrats and their water carriers in the partisan media don't get but it ties into the American character. Look at the flaws this country had and how far we've traveled in our history in realizing the promise of the American Founding. Granted, we're not perfect as God surely knows but we're always in search of that shining city on the hill and should we fall short in finding it, we know our children and grandchildren will. The American Dream lives on.

"and accused Bush of ignoring the rising violence in U.S. cities"

we should remind kerry that the violence will go down when Bush is re-elected and his minnions will not be physically attacking Bush supporters at his campaign rallys for displaying thier right for freedom of speach.

..accused Bush of ignoring rising violence in US cities.

HUH?!? Did I wake up to find that Dubya is now MAYOR of the USA??

And to the best of my knowledge, all big cities where crime is out of control, they're run by DemoncRATS (NYC Included). They mostly have lackey, politically-correct Police Chiefs, politically appointed RAT hack judges (Cook County, IL) and wherein arresting Illegals is forbidden, gun crimes are knocked down to misdemeanors, so as NOT to tick off 'minority voting blocks'. Not to mention that these same cities just happen to be overrun by Illegal Aliens, Gang-bangers, Drug Dealers and other such dregs of society.

But paradoxically, these same cities have some of the 'toughest' gun laws in the nation. Gee, figure THAT one out!

(I'm sure glad that Kerry said he'll make sure terrorists obey our weapons laws. Maybe he'd do the same with the criminals - that'd make me feel a LOT safer!) /sarcasm
