I think you've identified one thread of the thought processes of the liberals.

These people have constructed an alternate view of reality that is internally consistent to a large extent. When it rubs up against reality too hard, they just scream epithets (or, depending on the circumstances, strap on an explosive belt).

Here is the way that the MSM seems to be spinning this. The documents are fake, but the questions remain about Bush's service.

Both CBS and the NY Times have tried this argument over the last few days, but it isn't working -- the rest of the MSM (especially ABC News and the Washington Post) agree it's a dumb argument.

CBS seems to have abandoned this argument, and now they're trying to grasp at some other straws.

Who would've thought that the Freeper Nation could bring an entire news network to the brink of collapse. CBS can't believe they're being cut down by a "bunch of guys in their pajamas".

Burkett's lawyer, David Van Os, a Democratic candidate for the Texas Supreme Court, issued a statement this week saying Burkett "no longer trusts any possible outcome of speaking to the press on any issue regarding George W. Bush."

Wow, even the Democrats don't trust the MSM anymore.

LOL, I just came from over there also. They are fighting each other tooth and nail. The "it looks like we are gonna lose(or as they spell it "loose") crowd vs. the "I have my head in the sand so just keep working" crowd. It's getting ugly amongst the DUmmies. Now excuse me, I really feel the need to shower.

They way they are reporting this is almost as if they believe Republicans don't have 1st amendment rights.

Buckhead or Lee Harvey Oswald?
Buckhead, Lee Harvey Oswald - what's the difference? </sarcasm>

The fact that they were uncovered by Free Republic and the pajama-clad internet jockeys makes it too humiliating for him to concede.

You may be right -- that's one explanation.

The other alternatives are darker. For example, he may be covering for a source in the Kerry campaign, or worried about some kind of legal jeopardy for his own actions.

I'll bet we get to the bottom of this within the next week or two.

I read this piece as digging in their heels on the issue of Bush's guard service while backing away from the authenticity of the Docs and trying to somehow attach this flap to Rove and the GOP.

They are desparate to change the subject. Meanwhile the rest of MSM is critical and generally creeped out by their actions.

Corporate top management at the parent company of CBS will have to see the ratings go critically lower before anything is done about any of this.

The rot runs deep at Blackrock.

It's hilarious that they spend several paragraphs "outing" Buckhead, but pass over that Burkett is a MAJOR Kerry fundraiser. No bias here. Move along, please...

I think you're confusing Burkett with former Lt. Governor Barnes, who is a major fundraiser. Burkett appears to be just an active democRAT whack-job but not a big money man.

"...declined to answer questions about his political background or explain how he knew so much about the documents so quickly..."

Because they were such bad forgeries? To say that he had to have had "advance copies" is insulting to not only Buckhead's intelligence, but the many other Freepers and jammy-clad bloggers who noticed the same problems with the memos!

"CBS is playing to the prejudice of its fan base."

Someone somewhere after reading this is saying, "Good Point."

That's what is so freighting to me.

Great post. I think you've nailed it.

(Other than low ratings, they could be forced to change their tune by unhappy advertisers, or by unhappy affiliate stations.)

His posting, published on the conservative Web site www.freerepublic.com hours after the CBS News broadcast on Sept. 8, concluded the records were forged. It based the conclusions on a technical analysis of spacing and font styles.

Not to take anything away from Buckhead .. He did real good on catching it and questioning if they were real

But the font style was not the only thing to lead Freepers to think those documents were fake .. the signature was one .. the fact that these documents didn't come from the Pentagon, but from a man who was dead for 20 years .. the way Killian's rank was typed was wrong ... oh and lets not forget the fact .. Stault retired a year before that so-called memo was typed

Oh .. and I like the how these liberals list Buckhead's real name and where he works ..

Can you say Intimidation?

"Suggesting that the guy who blew the whistle is a Pubbie activist is a bit beside the point isn't it?"

No because they are trying to feed the lie still. Their only mission is to damage Bush. They are commiting suicide in an desperate aattempt to get a Demoncrape elected. They don't have much ammo to use anymore.
