Ex-guardsman gave Bush records to Cleland

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A retired Texas National Guard officer mentioned as a source of disputed documents on President Bush's service in the Guard said he passed along information to a former senator working with Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry's campaign.

In an Aug. 21 e-mail to a list of Texas Democrats, Bill Burkett said after getting through "seven layers of bureaucratic kids" in the Kerry campaign, he talked with former Sen. Max Cleland, Georgia Democrat, about information that would counter criticism of Mr. Kerry's Vietnam War service.

I suspect that Cleland will end up being a big wheel in the Kerry's demise.

if we loaded all of those bozoids onto a decommissioned Swift Boat, could we call it the "ship of tools"?
(and, then, could we hose it with a Mk19?)

What dates were those memos faxed to CBS and was Cleland in Texas at the time?

I believe its time for the media to take up Mr Rather's challenging tone... to ask KERRY some hard questions.

That's a link to the Kerry campaign...wonder if NYT's will do a flow chart? Much simpler one than the GOP=Swift Boats...doubt anyone draws that line in the MSM

Ha! Cleland! How fitting....this guy is slime and just filled with hate. Probably met with the guy when he was in Texas last month protesting at Pres. Bush's ranch. Probably faxed them directly from the Kinko's. Should be easy to identify if he was in that town.

The headline is a bit misleading. The article says that Burkett gave "information" to Cleland. It doesn't say what the information was. The big question remains who actually gave the documents to CBS, and what did the Kerry/DNC people know and when did they know it?

My recollection is that Cleland tried to hand-deliver that ridiculous letter on the Wednesday before the Republican convention. That would have been August 25, 2004, after the discussion with Burkett. Hmm...it should be easy to identify where Cleland and Burkett were between August 21 and August 25. If CBS's source is Cleland, that fact would nail the Kerry campaign real good. :)

They were faxed September 2.

He was there the 24th of August.

Cleland may well be the source.

Think about it - Burkett is damaged goods. Even liberal Rags like the Boston Globe said he was discredited and not to be believed.

Max Cleland, on other hand, may well be Danny's "unimpeachable source."

I could be wrong, but Max Cleland has yet to deny this allegation. Therefore, we can assume he is indeed the culprit.
