Hopefully, voters will see past Republican machismo
Columbia, Missouri Daily Tribune ^ | Sunday, September 19, 2004 | Sondra Snapp

Dear Editor, the Tribune:
Amazing. The Republican Bush camp is able to turn an unaccounted stint in the Air National Guard - even with a report by the Washington Post that former Texas Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes told close friends he was trying to "collect chits" from an influential political family when he recommended President George W. Bush for a pilot’s spot in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War - into a macho-man experience.

After four days of the Republican convention - not to mention weeks of the Swift Boat Nuts - a true hero, John Kerry, who spent two tours of duty in Vietnam and earned three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and Bronze Star, is now portrayed to America, in the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, as a "girlie man."

After fighting for his country during the war and for the 56,000 lost military personnel after his return, Kerry is being portrayed as weak and a wimp by a former cheerleader, self-proclaimed drunk and draft dodger who walks with a Texas swagger and portrays himself to America as a strong and tough leader.

Who is the true "girlie man:" The real hero with nuances who learns with life’s experiences and changes his mind with maturity, time and the intuition that comes with age, or a man who is steadfast and never changes or apologizes - no matter how many mistakes made, lives lost and lies told? Hopefully, all Americans will take the former; but if not, all I can say is "be afraid, be very afraid."

I like reading this stuff - especially when W. has such a nice lead here in Missouri. (warning to self: do not bask in over-confidence)

It's nearly comical in its regurgitation of DNC talking points.

and changes his mind with maturity, time and the intuition that comes with age,

I see. So his weekly/monthly flip flops are caused by the maturation process? LOL

Yeah - try getting certified for combat in an F-102. The risk of accidental death in one of those puppies was HIGH. GWB demonstrated courage as do all Guard members who stand ready to fight for our country.

I am amazed how dopey it is for the lefties to disparage the Guard - they just cant seem to get past thier seething hatred of Bush. Its good for our cause.

Poor Sondra, there is only one problem with this explanation:

"Who is the true "girlie man:" The real hero with nuances who learns with life’s experiences and changes his mind with maturity, time and the intuition that comes with age, or a man who is steadfast and never changes or apologizes - no matter how many mistakes made, lives lost and lies told?"

I know she is trying to suggest that Kerry has matured. But, unfortunately, he is the 2nd description: he never changes (he hates the US & our military as much today as he did in the '70s) and he has never apologized for the humilitation he caused the wonderful men and women returning from combat or sitting in POW cells.

Note to Sondra,
Even a Girlieman is still a man, Kerry is a poltroon, a
coward and a political cameleon.

hahahahaha......... the emotional ranting of a disconnected liberal wandering aimlessly in Disneyland!

This liberal nutcase must have wandered away from Columbia and must be going crazy living in ultra conservative St Joe! hahahahaha

She needs to be on Kerry's staff since she is so helpful to his campaign. hahahahaha
