Gosh, so many choices...
Did he just define "is", or is he saying that there really is no controlling legal authority?
Dan Rather is so full of cBS that he can't tell the truth from a lie.
I hope they make him a CBS Exec. They deserve each other.

I know our President has tried to stay out of this fray, but I'm glad he finally commented. Notice how his statement covers three points - "...he did not get special treatment in getting into the Guard, and that he fulfilled all duties. He was honorably discharged." I suspect the SEAL hunter,
Nash, may be on to something with respect to Kerry's less than honorable discharge.

This is the complete statement (I think)!!! Shouldn't someone be fired? That would make it complete. Thanks for the ping.

Unbelievably weak. Claiming ignorance, when they had consulted many experts who have said they told CBS documents were most likely phony.
This is not the end of this episode.

If nothing else this really blunts any October surprise from the Dems using the National Guard.
Still open for expectation of October Suprise:

What really cracks me up....CBS's Andrew Heyward in his statement says, "we can't authenticate the documents". He should have said, "we now know the documents are not authentic, they are fakes."
And by the way.....CBS should apologize to FOXNews as well as their viewers, the family of LTC Killian, and President Bush.

I don't think for one minute that CBS will somehow change their stripes. Yesterday, I tuned into CBS radio while in the car and they were giving Eleanor Cliff access, as if it were news. She stated all kinds of lies, including that "all of the Swift Boat accusations had been proven false".
They don't comment back, of course, as this is the easy way to get their lies out there.

Thanks for the ping, Howlin. They still have not owned up to the fact that the documents are forgeries. Both the statement by CBS and the one by Rather leave a lot to be desired.

In the statement, CBS said: "Burkett originally said he obtained the documents from another former Guardsman. Now he says he got them from a different source whose connection to the documents and identity CBS News has been unable to verify to this point." In other words, they know who the source is but they have not gotten (or, more likely, will not get) a confirmation of who the source is.
Very slippery ground here; they can hide behind the 'need to verify' the identity of the source, but if they choose not to ask for verification from a second or third party, they can't name the source.
