via phone interview...Joe Allbaugh, former CoS for then-Gov. Bush flatly refutes claims that there was any attempt to "sanitize" W's TANG records. SAYS CBS OWES THE PREZ A DIRECT APOLOGY AND THAT CBS DELIBERATELY USED FRAUDULENT EVIDENCE TO ATTEMPT TO INFLUENCE THE ELECTION!
Does he have any influence with a District Attorney?
Just like Al Qaeda in Spain...
About time someone verbalized this!!
They owe General Daniel James III an apology too, as he is another great American who they allowed Burkett to smear.
ARREST....ARREST...ARREST!
CBS "deliberately tried to influence an election with fraudulent evidence"
This is what CBS should apologize for-not for being duped.
Kerry is trying to get the French to influence our election and frankly, I think Kerry is hoping his words will encourage Al Qaeda to step up their efforts in Iraq in order to make things really ugly over there so the American people will vote Bush out of office.
And Dan Rather was clearly trying to influence an election.
The anti-Americanism of these people is such that I'd like to see charges brought against them.
He was going for whole ball of wax.
Andrew's mail at CBS an attempt at damage control. Worried this thing get's out of hand.
are ya'll LISTENING to Fox News?? Vanity Fair guy says that the story IS TRUE, that Bush DIDNT SERVE HONORABLY, that "he" KNOWS many that were given honorable discharges during VNam that didnt serve honorabley.. That President BUsh LIED to AMerica..BUT he says the memos are fake...NOw THAT is going to be the spin.....ok WHY doesnt he SAY WHO GOT those discharges??
He's right, CBS needs to be held accountable. Apologies are NOT going to cut it.
The US Attorney in Dallas ought to be interested in this.
Yea but nothing will happen I fear.
I guess you mean besides on FreeRepublic.
Here is my response to CBS, which I sent thru their website:
Dear CBS,
I find you apology and admission of fault in the Dan Rather "Memogate" scandal disingenuous and halfhearted.
The fact you are admitting that you were misled is perfectly acceptable, but in the this case I believe like many many others, that CBS and Dan Rather wanted to be misled. Your network wanted this story to be true in the worst way, because it could hurt President Bush, plain and simple.
Your apology should have been more along the lines of "the CBS News team attempted to mislead its viewers and the American people, in an attempt to harm and impugn the military of George W. Bush. The management of CBS deeply regrets this matter and we pledge to get to the truth in this matter. All CBS employees that were involved with the sourcing of this story have been suspended until we have properly identified the culpability of all parties involved"
CBS, you failed your viewers and your fellow TV journalist once again. I am sure your viewers will give you what you deserve.
Regards,
Actually Allbaugh and Karen Hughes should sue for slander too. Burkett accused both of them of colluding to 'scrub' Bush TANG docs.
From Feb Boston Globe:
"Conn's recollection also undercuts another of Burkett's central allegations: that he overheard Bush's onetime chief of staff, Joe M. Allbaugh, telling a Texas Guard general to make sure there were no embarrassments in the Bush record."
Yes, I meant out loud on TV.
Now that is about as honest a summation as I've heard. Go, Joe!
