Matthew Felling advances the KKK smear

What is the alleged connection? Has anyone ever said, or are they just slurring by throwing "KKK" out there without any backup?

Did the SLF (to which Buckhead is connected) take on any cases involving the KKK?

The AJC story said he used to be with the Southeastern Legal Foundation, which may have taken on a Klan case here or there (just as the ACLU has in the past). Dunno. But I know his firm and its rep, and I know a few folks there, and I'd be very surprised if they had a partner who has any real involvement with the Klan. It is not exactly an "old world" law firm.

Shep Smith just had Matthew Felling, media director for the Center for Media and Public Affairs, on half an hour ago talking about Rathergate. In the middle of the interview Felling suddenly blurts out that the person who originally found the font discrepancy "has ties to the KKK."

If this were said about me, I would demand satisfaction from Mister Felling. If said satisfaction were not forthcoming, I would challenge him to a duel.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Maybe once upon a time he had a client whose cousin's best friend's uncle's neighbor knew someone when he was in the Army who was in the KKK, or something like that. Bring back duelling!! Zell Miller reminded us all -- at least he reminded me -- that it's an excellent way to ensure civility, as paradoxical as that might sound.

Until that happens, or until the laws on slander and defamation are strengthened, you're always going to have these cowards hiding behind the law's skirts, throwing out slanders and lies that in an earlier age would've rightfully cost them their lives.
