Couple indicted in tax fraud case (TEXAS)

FORT WORTH - A school district employee and her partner in an Arlington business were named Friday in a nine-count federal indictment accusing them of conspiring to obstruct tax collections by the Internal Revenue Service from 1999 until 2001.

Bivian Brumley and Charles Ford, who represented themselves as husband and wife, ran Assets Trusts & Associates, which marketed a tax-evasion scam, prosecutors said.

They said Brumley and Ford advised clients to drop out of the federal income tax system by falsely claiming nonresident-alien status.

Ford and Brumley charged $400 to $1,000 to help clients falsely file IRS W-4 forms to stop employers from withholding federal income taxes from the clients' wages, according to the indictment.

The indictment also accuses the couple of instructing clients to stop filing federal income-tax returns and stop paying federal income taxes.

Brumley and Ford had their initial court appearance Friday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Charles Bleil. He released Brumley and detained Ford pending a detention hearing scheduled for Wednesday.

On July 23, 1999, Ford and Brumley falsely filed IRS form W-4 with the school district, authorities said, but the indictment did not offer further details.

Fort Worth school officials declined Monday to release basic information about Brumley's position and employment history until the district's legal department reviews a written open-records request from the Star-Telegram.

The IRS will get their client lists and go after those people as well.

There are always ignoramuses who think they're not subject to the rules that the rest of us are.

In another beef, I've emailed the Star Telegram, asking them why they didn't get one of their crack reporters out to Abilene and Austin and start working on this Memogate story.

Why was a London newspaper the first one to find out about the Kinko connection?

No worry, looey runs around in California at least up till the last time he said anything about it.

We get to keep him around for awhile longer, that is until the big one hits and drops him off into the ocean.
