I think you may be right about part of this. I don't know about the drug use and rape but I suspect they were trying to force Bush to talk and then catch him in a supposed lie based on the fake documents. The best laid plans........
They were waiting for a denial before springing something else - IMHO; sucks they tripped themselves up instead of just reporting the facts...
