Nixon was in the House of Representatives during the Chambers/Hiss hearings in the latter half of 1948. The episode when Chambers took them to the pumpkin on his farm where he had hidden the microfilms was in December 1948. See Tanenhaus' book on Whittaker Chambers (pages 301-302). The Senate race was in 1950.
