HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) -- Contrite condemned killer Andrew Flores was executed Tuesday evening for fatally shooting a San Antonio convenience store clerk during a $45 robbery 11 years ago.
"Today I go home to the Lord," he said in a brief last statement. "But first I have to say something."
"I am real sorry," he said, looking at the wife of his victim. "I took a family member's life and I shouldn't have. I hope that you can move on. I'm just sorry. I can't bring anyone back. I would if I could. I won't ask for your forgiveness. God will be my judge."
Flores then turned and expressed his love to his friends and relatives, including his sobbing mother and sister.
"Be strong and I will see you all, hopefully not soon. Keep your head up," he said.
After taking a couple of deep breaths and gasping, he slipped into unconsciousness. Nine minutes later at 6:20 p.m., he was pronounced dead.
Flores, 32, became the 13th Texas prison inmate to receive lethal injection this year. At least 11 others have execution dates for later in 2004, including five next month.

One more piece of scum is gone. As my Criminal Justice Prof, who is also the Police Chief in College Station, says "some people just need to be killed".
I didn't get a chance to go see if the useful idiots were standing in front of Texas A&M and protesting like they usually do before an execution. Needless to say, they don't get a warm reception.

And the colon of the state of Texas expels another chunk of waste. Well done.

I have to say, I think this man went out with some dignity. That's got to count for something, if not in this world, in the next.
No excusing, just something that the death penalty can give to the codemned, and thereby to us.
May God have Mercy on his Soul.

I wonder why we spend so much time talking about how sorry these monsters are when they face the end. In some way, a number of people seem to feel better if these killers express contrition. I wonder how many victims have been brought back by a sorry killer.

Shouldn't they have taken the road trip to Huntsville instead? I am glad for the victim's family that he expressed remorse over what he did. Too late for the clerk, but it might have saved the criminal's soul.

The ultimate irony? The prison system in Texas is smoke-free - no last cigarette. That's about the only thing they'll turn down for your last meal (that and they take a dim view of requests for cake with a file inside).

Shouldn't they have taken the road trip to Huntsville instead? There are always a bunch that protest in Huntsville. They show up at every execution. Here in Bryan/College Station we have our own dozen or so die hards that protest in front of the main entrance to Texas A&M. They hold a large banner or two that denounce the death penalty but most people think they're a bunch of losers.

Being a proud Texan, I have to follow my heart and take a stand against the current form of execution in our state as it is completely unfair in its practice.
Unfair to the victim and the victims family.
To allow these brutal sadistic bastards to lay down peacefully and then gently slip off to sleep is too inhumane to those left behind to suffer. I dont know what the solution to this problem is, but I am all for bring back the rope, or old sparky.
But this current solution is too easy.

The prison system in Texas is smoke-free - no last cigarette. There's just so much...justice...in that. Cigarettes are -- for all intents and purposes -- currency in prisons. Denying convicts their addiction is just icing on the cake.

The sad part about this is the life of the innocent person he took and the fact that it took 11 years to put the killer to death. The family of the victim had to wait the whole 11 years for justice to be served.

but I am all for bring back the rope, or old sparky. But this current solution is too easy. I couldn't agree with you more. We want people to understand that they will die ugly if they commit murder. The rope or the chair will provide real deterrence. Also, we need to do away with this ridiculously long appeals process.

If they're done right, fried pork chops are really good. I use butterfly chops, 1/2 inch thick, cut in half. Dip them in milk then dredge in flour with salt and pepper. Then 30 seconds per side in hot (just smoking) oil to sear it, then turn down the heat and cook at low medium, covered, for about 10 minutes a side. NEVER use a fork to turn them - use tongs.
Serve with skillet white gravy made with the drippings.

Sheesh. Ever since they allowed Greeks, old Army has changed. I remember the days of the GSSO and the huge brouhaha that went with it. Too bad they don't try waving their banners over in the Quad. The majority of the student body is conservative. Most of the lefties are found in the Liberal Arts, usually English, Education, and the soon to be gone Journalism Department. I remember in 2002 in one of my Political Science classes, some chick from the College Democrats came into the room before class to put up a flier encouraging everyone to vote Democrats in November. Just about everyone booed her out of the room when she started lecturing is on how evil President Bush is.

were still working on the express lane. there are laws in the works (and may have already been passed) that states if there is video or 3 credible witnesses, there is no wait. from what i understand you dont even get checked into the jail, you go directly to hell, do not pass go, do not collect your last meal.

bah, ive only been bitten twice by a scorpion, just dont lift any rotting lumber with your bare hands, wear gloves.
you can open carry a pistol on a holster (texas laws state that a pistol in a belt holster displayed openly shall not be considered concealed) for the snakes.
and for the stingrays, well..... those hurt.. but its worth the price for living in the republic of texas.
