Elect George Bush, some Kerry surrogates said last week, and you or your children will be drafted to fight in Iraq.
Inspiring fear in voters seems to be in political vogue this fall. (Cheney has since amended his comments to say he meant to argue that Bush has a more serious approach to deterring terrorists than does Kerry.)
Some voters seem inclined to believe that Bush would attempt to revive conscription, which ended 31 years ago.

Laughable. And your thoughts on the matter?
If I recall correctly, the whole idea of bringing back the draft belongs to Charlie Rangel.
Not a chance of a draft.
This is all tying togehter too nicely.
I don't understand why this benefits Kerry when the ones proposing a bill to bring back the draft are Rangel and Hollings-both dems. ????
That's why I have posted my post to every CBS thread on Free Republic started since about 11:00 AM CDT. I'm trying to make sure as many people as possible see it.
If they'd think it out, they'd realize a draft is much more likely with Kerry.
Neither Kerry or Bush can leave Iraq immediately, but Bush is more likely to use the heavy duty artillery in battling the enemy and other tactics which require less manpower.
On the other hand, Mr. Kerry's tactics likely would require more men , both in more "humane" rules of engagement and more men needed to protect the German and French contractors who would be welcomed into the theatre in the event of a Kerry presidency.
Because the rumors leave out who the sponsors are.
Standard summary #4F:
Yes there are draft proposals, almost all Democrat.
They have NOTHING to do with military manpower requirements.
As intended-to-fail proposals, they are straw men set up
so that Kerry+Edwards can promise to oppose them (even
though they probably support them - see below). When do
you need to worry about what Kerry's plans are on an
issue? When he takes a position, any position.
Bush already opposes draft proposals, but don't expect
the legacy media to tell you this.
As serious proposals, they have everything to do with
Universal National Service - stealing two years from
every life, then 3, then 4, and why stop there ...
And National Service has nothing to do with service.
It has everything to do with indoctrination of the slaves.
Which means that if the "progressives" ever get control
again, kiss your liberty goodbye.
This is nothing but fear-mongering by Kerry and you, churchillbuff.
Gloom-gloom-gloom. Not enough gloom today, we'll have more gloom tomorrow.
Do you see a pattern here?
Yeah, and he'll take away your social security, throw you grandparents out on the street, give guns to gangs, and force you daughters to have back alley abortions. yadda yadda yadda
Is this a daily thing with you, or what?
They are not only running ads, but there is an extensive email campaign that is spreading through the internet claiming that if George Bush wins, it's the draft for all young people. I've seen several versions of this go by.
Though it's bogus information, it's creating a lot of fear and uncertainty (which are the favorite weapons of the Democrat Party) among young voters and really needs to be countered with a strong dose of the truth before the election.
In truth, the pair of Universal National Service Act bills, S.89 and H.R.163, have been introduced and sponsored by liberal Democrats. S.89 is sponsored by Sen. Fritz Hollings (D-SC), while the companion H.R.163 was introduced by Congressional Black Caucus cofounder and Harlem representative Charlie Rangel (D-NY), along with 14 other Democrats that read like a Who's Who of the Left in Congress:
