In the wake of her performance this morning, to call Katie Couric a vulture might be an insult to that noble bird.
Her guest was Ty Hensley, brother of the latest American to be beheaded by Islamofascist terrorists in Baghdad.
Couric's M.O. in these situations is well established. She inevitably begins by asking sympathetic questions about how the widow and other family members are "doing," and gives the bereaved a chance to describe the victim's fine qualities.
That out of the way, Couric gets down to her real agenda - exploiting the horror to bash the Bush administration.
Couric: "It's been reported that the weapons scientist nick-named Dr. Germ is being released by Iraqi authorities. The family of the remaining hostage is asking [the terrorists] to release their family member since this indicates an attempt to fulfill the terrorists' demands that women prisoners be released. Are you angry that this wasn't done earlier in time to save your brother?"
Hensley, a dignified, articulate man, did not give a direct answer to the question.
In a final attempt to exploit the situation, Couric tried to lure Hensley into taking a shot at the war and the Bush administration with this question, asked in an emotional, almost choked tone: "How do you feel about the war in Iraq?"
Yes, there's nothing like asking the brother of someone who has just been beheaded how he feels about the war in which his brother died.
To his great credit, Hensley refused to play into Couric's agenda:
"At this point I'm too emotional to answer that. I have to go on what I thought and believed at the time the decision was made to go to war and the intelligence we had then. I want to believe that there is still much good we can do for the Iraqi people."
As Katie ended the interview and threw the show back to Matt Lauer, she seemed on the verge of tears. But were they tears of sympathy for the victims and outrage at the terrorists, or disappointment that she had failed to lure Mr. Hensley into her Bush-bashing game?
Every time you think Katie and her MSM cohorts can't sink any lower, we have a morning like this one.
But Couric wouldn't want to let the facts get in the way of Bush bashing.
This morning I could not beleive what I was seeing being done to this poor man. Katie is one cruel *itch!
I don't know. Dr. Germ, aka Mrs. Anthrax was being held, I believe, on suspicion of genocide in regards to the gassing of the kurds. If they've decided they don't have a solid case and don't think they can get any more intel out of her, it may be better to let her go and tail her and see where she goes and who she talks to.
Not very entertaining. In that regard, I guess PeeWee is a good comparison.
They might be plain old crocodile tears.
I just watched the segment--Katie was ghoulish (no surprise), but Ty Hensley kept his dignity.
btttttt
Agreed. It is impressive how often people in these situations comport themselves with such dignity and articulateness, despite their grief. Katie was closer to tears than he was. Makes you wonder.
To adopt the left's approach to hyperbole, she might as well have sawed HIS head off with a rusty blade too...
Affable Eva Braun, indeed.
Katie Couric is a twit. Perky airhead pretending to be a serious journalist.
I do NOT such tripe, since we have Fox News here!
I hadn't heard that the women (both?) had been released. I did hear that Saddam wants to be on the ballot. I'll bet they let him & there are idiots in Iraq who will vote for him.
Don't blame you. I also watch FNC frequently, but believe it's worthwhile keeping track of what the MSM are up to.
I was referring to something said by Couric. trying to destroy this family. There could be no other reason for asking such a question.. what a great photo op, the family breaking down on national tv. What a miserable slimey bit*h.
She's a shameless sadistic witch using a mental blunt knife to saw peoples' hearts. Nice extension of al-Zarqawi mission.
Well said!!!!!
Ty Hensley now on Fox News.
I'm troubled that this brother left his sister-in-law, to be in New York for the interview, and now he's coming up on FOX too, so he's making the rounds. and it is gruesome he hasn't even been officially informed that the latest body found is his brother's.
but we just don't know someone else's motives at a time like this, how we would react, or how our survivors would handle it.
