Yes, the origins of the anti-felon voting law was actually to prevent confederal officers, officials, and bushwhackers from being able to vote, NOT to prevent blacks from voting.

"Millions of U.S. citizens, including a disproportionate number of black voters, will be blocked from voting in the Nov. 2 presidential election because of legal barriers, faulty procedures or dirty tricks, according to civil rights and legal experts."

Ms. Cleo, is that you?

I hate Reuters.

Despite my knowing where Reuters stands ideologically, I was still surprised that they leaped into this breach. This story needs to be vigorously combatted.

I put this down to a Reuters mistake of ignorance. They do not realize that in the US, the civil rights commission put out a false report, but for political reasons, the report cannot be corrected.

In other words, reputable news organizations in the states know they cannot regurgitate info from that report. They know it has to be taken with a ton of salt. It is time for better attention to be paid to truth.

This is just RIDICULOUS. It's time to pull some journalism teeth around here. Is there a way to find out who this author reports to, if anyone (save God)? If there is more of an outcry and legal handslaps happening with the out of control media, I'd be able to open my damn browser without getting hit in the face with this sort of garbage. The problem is that this is what is PRIMARILY read by the general public. The general VOTING public. And does damage.

GrrrrrRRRRRR!!! Can't vote because the poor felon is barred from the polls. Should be barred from the borders. Oh, yes, please let some rapist gangbanger pick a President for me. Thank you so much...

sorry....ranting.

Whine whine whine.

It's up to each individual citizen to make sure they're properly registered to vote.

And there's not a a single example in this article that extends beyond "minor inconvenience."

Then there are the billions and billions of American plants, insects, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and wild mammals who cannot vote either!

That reminds me. I had this fly with me in the voting booth last time I voted. When I pushed the big, green VOTE button on the electronic Diebold voting machine, the fly seemed to disappear. I don't know what happened to him. I have noticed these coarse black hairs growing on my neck, though.

Rule #1 You must have a valid ID in order to vote

I've never been asked for ID (Illinois)

There was a thread a few weeks ago where the question was asked: "Do you have to show ID where you vote" Majority of responses were NO

Actually, I have a Pagan Nephew-in-law who was convicted of Sexual Battery and just got off probation (following his 15 month jail term). If he were off the voter rolls forever it would be no skin off my nose. (he is in OH)

What about our military men defending our country overseas, whose ballots never reach the mainland by election day? I guess that's just TOO BAD.

"In elections in Baltimore in 2002 and in Georgia last year, black voters were sent fliers saying anyone who hadn't paid utility bills or had outstanding parking tickets or were behind on their rent would be arrested at polling stations. It happens in every election cycle," she said.

These fliers were sent only to black households? How did the senders determine which recipients were black? Who sent these fliers? I don't even believe this statement.
