WASHINGTON - Homeland Security officials said Yusuf Islam - formerly known as singer Cat Stevens - will be deported Wednesday after being denied entry to the U.S. for being on a government watch list.
The former singer was a passenger on United Airlines Flight 919, en route to Dulles International Airport from London when the match was made Tuesday between a passenger and a name on the watch list, said Nico Melendez, a spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration.
The plane diverted to Maine and met by federal agents at Bangor International Airport around 3 p.m. EDT, Melendez said.
Homeland Security Department spokesman Dennis Murphy identified the passenger as Islam. "He was interviewed and denied admission to the United States on national security grounds," Murphy said.

I loved "The Streak"!
Don't let the Burka his your a$$ on the way out.
Cool. Punk is punted.
He is getting the treatment he deserves. Anti-US, pro-radical Muslim. Certainly not an American at all....in any shape or form. Just look at him and his new name.
He sang "The Streak"???
Trouble Oh trouble set me free I have seen your face And it's too much too much for me Trouble Oh trouble can't you see You're eating my heart away And there's nothing much left of me I've drunk your wine You have made your world mine So won't you be fair So won't you be fair I don't want no more of you So won't you be kind to me Just let me go where I'll have to go there
He came to stump with Kerry.
:)
I thought he did A-hab the A-rab.
That was Ray Stevens, not Cat Stevens. Cat Stevens takes himself way too seriesly to write something like "The Streak".
Didn't ole Cat baby start out as one of Sham the Sham's Pharohs? Or did he just end up there?
I thought it was "I'm Being Followed By An Infidel's Shadow".
Seriously, the only hits I remember are "Moon Shadow" and"Peace Train".
Stupid headline. After switching to terrorism support and changing his name, he's no longer Cat Stevens.
Of course, I never said Cat wrote it. I just said I like the song!
Do you know Cat Stevens' favorite joke?
Q. What actor is the opposite of Christopher Reeve?
A. Christopher Walken
He doens't like being called that. All the more reason to use it. But he still cashes those royalty checks made out to Cat Stevens. And he donates that money to "charitable caueses."
Well, do we all feel safer now?
Good Riddance to Cat Stevens. So many more to go.
