Mapes read the memos over the phone to Hodges who said he was misled. Mapes assured the CBS execs that the memos were being authenticated and that the sources were credible. Mapes "broke" the story, allowing it to be rushed at the last minute, even though she got two of the docs in August, enough time to authenticate. Mapes gave Lockhart Burkett's number. Must I go on.

Many of the roads of deception lead to Mapes. Give me a break.

But the unknown producer who just did what the culture at CBS (created by the Rathers and the Wallaces and the Safers) told her to do, well, there's your sacrifice.
