[snip]This linkage of combat in Baghdad with safety on Main Street has reduced the gender gap in the polls to historic lows as women have resonated with Bush's new emphasis.
Now that Kerry has moved too far left in a misguided effort to enthuse his political base, Bush can close in for the kill and defend our action in Iraq and our global combativeness against terrorism as fundamental to the protection of our families at home.
Part of Kerry's vulnerability on the Iraq issue is because he is really not proposing anything new to deal with the war. His four-part "plan" which centers on urging our allies and the U.N. to do more and calls for strong efforts to provide jobs to Iraqis (the John Edwards message, sent abroad) and to train Iraqi police and troops just mirrors what Bush is already doing.
That is, it is only in retrospect in criticizing past actions that Kerry really differs from Bush. He is proposing no real alternative for action in the future.
Since elections are about the future and history books about the past, Bush can fairly ask Kerry what he would do differently. When the Democrat ticks off his agenda, Bush can reply with his statistics saying (in effect), Been there, done that.
John Kerry has zigged when he should have zagged. He has chosen to fight over terror and Iraq when he should have stayed on domestic issues. He has tacked left when he should have stayed in the center on foreign issues and attacked on matters closer to home.
Kerry has defined himself as a liberal and will pay for it with his defeat.

I sure hope Dick is right.
Wrong thread!
i hope he is right for the first time in a while
OOPS. I guess Kerry will be in favor of the war again by Friday.
really? if so that is great. he had to move this late just to secure his base and ceeded the middle if you are right
...is a total joke, considering that the French (Kerry's biggest ally) has already unequivocally stated that they'll have no part in Kerry's plan. A sure sign that Kerry's lofty "plan" has absolutely no foundation in reality. LOL!
If you think Dick Morris is being tough on Kerry, get a load of this:

Sure, can't you see kerry now..'its the wrong war at the wrong time at the wrong place'...won't you join us? There is a winning pitch..LMAO
I'm not really sure what he thought his problem was with his base. another explanation is that he was merely looking to draw a sharp contrast to GWB's policies; and that was impossible because he was running as "Bush Lite". then again, perhaps THAT was his problem with his base.
Would this be another one of those seared, seared things again?
That is, even as the Democrat condemned the war in Iraq as a "diversion" from the central mission of the war on terror, a large minority of his own voters disagrees and sees it as "integral" to the battle to respond to 9/11.
Nah. It'll be like every other Kerry dramatic moment: way overdone.
That part always cracked me up. These same Democrats who consider Bush's toppling of Hussein as a "diversion" considered Clinton's lobbing a few cruise missiles as "sending a message."
Sometimes I wonder if Democrats appreciate how truly dopey they are.
Not necessarily. Substitute "George W. Bush" for "cops," and look ahead about a year after the election, and you've got it exactly right. In fact, I'd say it's absolutely brilliant!
Good, I can't wait until he loses BIG. I think no one has ever deserved it more.
I think Kerry thinks he's going to lose, and now wants to lose like a nutty Leftwinger.
His real problem is that he still thinks that you can maneuver within the sympathetic "progressive" media bubble the way you used to be able to do in the days of his hero the real JFK. He's been so busy making a movie of himself that he has not noticed that the theaters where he planned to play the lead don't have many patrons sitting passively to await his entrance as he shifts his speech back and forth from town to town.
do you think the dems have any idea that john kennedy is dead?
I have come back to this article a number of times tonight to reread key passages. this is unbelievably brilliant, considering that dick morris wrote it.
