It'd be really nice if people started hammering Kerry on this issue...
The war in Iraq is over with. There is no military presence on the battlefield with which to fight a war against. The terrorists who are killing hostages and blowing up car bombs aren't fighting to turn the country back over to Saddam; even if you read their propaganda, it's unclear what they want exactly, with the exception of the US troops to pull out.
It's not a quagmire, it is simply aiding a now friendly government with homeland security until they can do it themselves. It is reconstruction after a destructive war. It is making life better in Iraq, and Kerry wants to cut and run.
It isn't like WWII as some columnists like to make the comparison, or if there are any similarities, it is in the reconstruction and occupation phases of that war. For all intents and purposes, the war in Iraq has been over for a year and a half.
So, in response to Senator Kerry, I say: What? You want to abandon efforts to rebuild and extend water pipelines? You want to shut down electric grids that are finally showing signs of reliability? You want to shut down oil fields that are finally producing enough oil to actually affect the world markets? You want to run, with your tail between your legs not from a superior army, not from a pitiful army, but from terrorists?
Good luck, Senator. The soccer moms of America won't go with you.
