September 23, 2004 -- Ratings for Dan Rather's "CBS Evening News" have plummeted drastically in New York since the Bush-documents scandal broke wide open this week. The perennially third-place 6:30 p.m. newscast averaged 135,000 viewers on WCBS/Channel 2 Monday the day Rather issued an on-air apology for the mess. That's down 49 percent from the 266,000 viewers who tuned in to Rather's newscast the previous Monday, Sept. 13, according to Nielsen.

According to sources, Mapes told "60 Minutes" bosses that the questionable memos at the heart of the controversy were authenticated by four document experts.
In fact, only two experts authenticated them and could not vouch for the documents themselves, only the signature, the sources said.
Mapes is said also to have told her bosses that her source for the memos Bill Burkett, the former guardsman wanted to be put in touch with high-level officials at the Kerry campaign, apparently as payback for providing the documents to CBS.
She was denied permission but went ahead and did it on her own, the insiders contend.

They will protect Dan Rather's platinum plated behind and Mary Mapes will end up looking worse than "Leash Girl".
She is as you say culpable as can be. But her taking the fall is going to be CBS's attempt to save others like Rather. I hope they fail.
Here's mine (I think I invented it!):
See?BS!
Stay Safe.......Y
I think it was a coordinated effort that was planned some time before Labor Day. I would love to hack into some of the computers to see the emails involved in the planning for this effort to bomb the Bush campaign.
I knew something was up when my Tacoma News Tribune published a story on Labor Day entitled: "Bush's - Military Files Still AWOL." This was written by Matt Kelly of the Associated Press.
I wonder how many other stories were planned to roll after the 60 Minutes forgeries hit the TV tubes of the world? I bet all the stories were in the can before Labor Day; just waiting to be rolled out. This was not the effort of a few people.
As I say, if you want to see the Democrats in action See B.S. (C.B.S).
Squeal! I hope the talks faster than a tobacco auctioneer and
dishes 100 metric tons of dirt on these people.
Maybe she can forge her resume or get one of the senior level members of the Kerry campaign to do it for her. I hear they're real good at that sort of thing.
"They are getting their firing squad ready for Mary Mapes! These leaks are preparation to blame as much as possible on her."
Mexican standoff, without a $10+ mil buyout.
If Mapes walks the plank, she'll shackle herself to Ed Murrow and everyone one riding his decomposing back...
Think she'd rather not?
It is a catchy way of putting "See?BS! in the cultural ash can of history they have been spoiling for all those years.

That's great Paleo! Putting that one in the archives.
I didn't make that. I'm just borrowing it from JoJo Gunn. JoJo Gunn should copyright it and license it for bumper stickers.
You can see the original and an earier version on this thread:

Alright! Well deserved recognition!
And the DNC before her...
I expect if she talks it would be in a book after the election. That would be the way to get the most money.
If the NY Post is correct in what they report and Mapes gets most of the blame, she is going to be radioactive in the News business and I think most of the political types will distance themselves as well, at least for a time.
However ideologically Mapes may be motivated she still needs a living and probably would be bitter if CBS treats her roughly. I think her story will come out.
You and poweqi could copyright it and donate proceed to your favorite pro Bush 537 organization. I think it would be great to get it on bumpers around the US! I have a plotter that can print posters up to 42" wide with waterproof ink! This would make an excellent banner to carry for Freeping.
