I think this confirms what many suspected, Mapes is to be the fall guy. The information leaked to this reporter certainly puts all the blame on her.
Of course the "dog that has yet to bark" suggests that Rather and others at CBS are if not equally culpable, they are close to that culpability. They certainly dug in their heels rather than checked out their story when questions were raised.

They are getting their firing squad ready for Mary Mapes! These leaks are preparation to blame as much as possible on her.

Well those excuses were good for less than a day (if true)but by the day after the broadcast all that info should have been known to CBS executives and they should have retracted the story..instead they tried to stonewall and cover it up..they are everybit to blame as Mapes for loss of public confidence..ome sacraficial lamb won't cut it...

... down 49 percent ... I'll be happy when it is down 100% and Rather and Mapes are pounding rocks in Sing-Sing while Lockhart is fending off his new cellmate, "Tiny", in Joliet.

Mapes should get her resume out to The Enquirer. Then again, I don't think she meets their level of journalistic integrity.
Maybe she can forge her resume or get one of the senior level members of the Kerry campaign to do it for her. I hear they're real good at that sort of thing.

It will drop further. A lot. A person simply can not watch something so fundamently discordant. The discordancy is well-known now. Rather makes up stories, he doesn't care enough for his audience to share truth with them. That's very disenheartening to the viewers, and it is no longer possible for them to droop their own comfortable wool over their eyes to avoid knowing it. The only avaiable comfort now -- that's in tuning Rather, and CBS too, out.

Starting today, our local newsradio station (WNIS, Tidewater Virginia) is dropping CBS NewsRadio in favor of ABC Radio. Program director Tony Macrini cited CBS's loss of journalistic professionalism and loss of credibility as an objective news source.
I personally wished they'd picked up Fox News instead, but Macrini specifically stated he wanted to avoid the "right wing radio" image, and ABC radio scores high among the demographics the station is targeting.
We're winning, folks. Thank you, Buckhead and Free Republic!

Rather's numbers rose to 176,000 viewers this past Tuesday but that was still down from the 213,000 viewers who tuned in to the previous Tuesday's broadcast. The only question is will they bring in Donald Trump to fire Dan on live TV or will he be asked to leave quietly.
