France rules out troops for Iraq

France rules out troops for Iraq

Barnier: Chaos will end only when Iraqis take charge of own future

France has repeated its criticism of the US-led war in Iraq and ruled out sending troops to that country.

French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier told the UN General Assembly on Thursday, "As everyone knows, France did not approve of the conditions in which the conflict was unleashed. Neither today nor tomorrow will it commit itself militarily in Iraq."

He added: "In Iraq, violence is exploding. Only when the Iraqis themselves take control of their future ... will the country be able to escape the chaos which could destabilise the entire region."

The United States and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan have both called for troops to be sent to Iraq, in particular for a dedicated force to protect UN personnel helping to prepare for elections by the end of January 2005.

But France, one of the harshest critics of the war that brought down Saddam Hussein, has repeatedly ruled out any military participation in Iraq.

Annan's fears

None the less, France "reaffirms its willingness, with its European partners, to assist the Iraqi people in rebuilding their country and restoring their institutions", Barnier said.

UN chief Annan has got France's
backing for his 'illegal war' view

In an interview with BBC on Wednesday, Annan also expressed fears that holding credible elections in Iraq might not be possible as planned in January 2005, in view of the escalating violence.

"I am one of those who believe that there should have been a second resolution from the UN Security Council to green-light the US-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein's regime," Annan said.

"I have indicated that it was not in conformity with the UN charter from our point of view, and from the charter point of view it was illegal," he said.

France expressed support for Annan's position, but the US and UK governments strongly objected to the UN chief's remarks.

An update to recent statements documented by Newsmax and others, and previously posted here at FR over the past few days. This time, however, it comes from Aljazeera, France's ally and denizen of the Beast's belly. This provides even more documentation of the fact that Kerry's hysterical caterwauling about how he is going to build a "true coalition" upon election is merely wishful thinking on his part and has no basis in substance.

Not a surprise. France needs Saint Joan of Arc back.

Well, this is probably a good thing for France. It will save them the embarrassment of having to surrender later on.

TO THE FRENCH: When terrorists start taking children hostage and blowing up schools in France, don't come to the coalition forces asking for help.

I guess Kerry can eat his words about bringing more countries on board to help with Iraq. His fellow Frenchmen have made it clear he's not talking about them. Maybe he should have checked with Chirac before spouting off.

Finally a reputable news source reports this. Well - more reputable than CBS anyway.

Who needs the French in Iraq? Just round up all the Iraqis who aren't fit for hanging, but not fit for living and send them to France!

Kerry has already said that his way of getting the French involved in Iraq will be to bribe them with restoration of the corrupt oil contracts they had with Saddam. In other words, he will simply steal the oil from the Iraqi people and give it to the French in order to buy their approval. This is apparently what liberals mean by a "more moral foreign policy".

In the not-to-distant future, when France gets overrun by Muslims, they will once again come and ask us to bail them out.

I hope every American father tells every American son about these lousy bastards, so that the next time they want Americans to bleed for them, our sons can tell them to "take a Dudley."

Except you know what?

I'd help anyway for French scholchildren.

Because to do other wise is to be like the bad guys.

Those little kids don't need it.

If the Islamists do it to just ONE child, they do it to all children.

The funny thing about France is when Islam strikes deep in their country, like blows up the Louvre or something, they will honestly be clueless as to why it happened. Neville Chamberlain is alive and well..

The french are worthless. Which brings me to a good french joke:

Question: Why do the french plant trees on both sides of their BLVD'S?

Answer: So the germans can march in the shade every time they defeat them.
