Republican leaders, including President Bush, say they are seeking ways to diversify their party, but strategists and a former congressman say the efforts are insufficient in reaching out to minority voters.
Mr. Bush, who drew 9 percent of the black vote in 2000 compared with 90 percent for his Democratic opponent Al Gore, has been working to improve his image in the black and Hispanic communities. He challenged blacks at the National Urban League convention in July on voting for Democrats despite being conservative on issues of taxes, education and homosexual "marriage."

Earlier this year, I think the Bushies were hoping to get maybe 40% of the Jewish vote, but in the most recent polls it's at about 25% and falling fast [i.e. heading back towards single digits, where it's been for the last several elections].
Bush won the Muslim vote in 2000, but, according to the latest Zogby, he won't get even 10% of it this time.
I was out on the road the other day and saw a school bus stop at an apartment complex. Near as I could tell, 100% of the kids who got off the bus were Mexicans [there must have been 15 or 20 of them]. We had zero [and I mean ZERO] Mexicans in this town when I was a kid.
And as far as I can tell, almost all the "Hindu" types from the Indian subcontinent are at least as liberal-fascist as the Jews themselves.
Hate to say it, but ol' Whitey better make one heckuva lotta babies, or this little country of ours ain't gonna be a Republic much longer. [Not that it's much of a Republic as it is...]
Bob Inglis, the once and future US Rep, has some comments at the end of the article that ALL Republicans would be wise to heed (of course "the choir" already knows what he's talking about) about having a consistent and continuous relationship with the black voting populace.
I think you need to check your 'facts' ... g'night.
*sigh* Well keep concentrating on the Asian communities and don't bite by going on the defensive when the race card is played against you. Instead point out examples of how your leftwing counter part always seems to get a free pass for the same behaviour.
On second thought after reading your personal commentary. You seem very deranged with racist slant.
Dude, PLEASE prove me wrong.
Unfortunately, though, I don't think you can.
Fact of the matter is, I don't see a single major group coming into this country that is predisposed to voting for liberty, or at least against tyranny.
Heck, from what I hear, the last two major groups of anti-communist immigrants to this country [the Cubans in the sixties, and the Vietnamese in the seventies] are drifting sharply socialist in the second and third generations, as memories of marxist totalitarianism fade with time.
Not deranged at all.
But if you think this country can absorb 30-40 million Mexicans [with very low IQs, little to no education, little to no desire to educate themselves, no English language skills, no desire to gain English language skills, and bringing with them a culture deeply rooted in bribery, corruption, and thievery], and still maintain some semblance of a Republican form of government, well, let's just hope you're right and I'm wrong.
Due to the still overwhelmingly white electorate, the GOP would be better served trying to get an increased 2-3% of them rather than waste their time on hopeless causes like the black vote.
There are some very eloquent black conservatives. Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams come to mind. I read one of Sowell's books, and although he doesn't claim to be a Republican, his views are certainly much more in line with Republican ideology than with Democrats.
There are also some black conservatives here on FR who are very knowledgable. I certainly appreciate their contributions here, and judging from the replies to their posts, many others feel the same way.
What I see is that there are more black conservative commentators these days, and the ones who have been around a long time are getting a lot more publicity than they used to. Walter Williams sits in for Rush Limbaugh sometimes.
When other black people start seeing intelligent black people in the press taking conservative positions on issues, they will start asking themselves questions.
These shifts take time, but I believe they are happening in the black community, and to some extent in the Latino and Jewish communities as well.
Patience. Keep on the side of reason. Let the other side take the low ground.
gee.... alright 30 - 40 million Mexicans have absolutely no aspirations at all. . .
Black Republicans are courageous and admirable people, but I have seen little evidence that they actually deliver
anything politically.
The Republican party needs to maximize its support among the white working class, and among sensible Hispanics -- who can be gotten in the same way we get our share of the white working class.
Racial pandering demoralizes and shafts our base, while creating few new votes. And those few new votes may prove to be more trouble than they're worth.
Why not? We took a bunch of drunk Micks and lowlife Brits when things got started here!
[ducks flames]
Now I know what you really think of me!
Hey Guy! I don't really know how I feel about you although I assume you're a great guy. What I'm trying to explain is that it doesn't make much sense to spend valuable resources in an area where the return is so small.
The Party should have one approach for all.
Dude, PLEASE prove me wrong.
Against Gore Bush commanded just 17 percent of the Jewish vote in 2000. Based on his unending support for Israel, however, Bush re-election planners are shooting for 30 percent.
Bush campaign manager Ken Mehlman said Jewish voters, only 19 percent of whom supported Mr. Bush in 2000, now know the president as a strong leader on the war on terror, a topic of importance in their community, who has the moral clarity to stay the course. link
So it's either 17 or 19, and that against a Jewish ticket! which is not "single digits". Why don't you go back and check the rest of the "facts". Why is it that people put out BS and say "prove me wrong" -- hey, you know what, if you're gonna make a bunch of questionable claims, provide your own evidence or prepare to be dismissed as full of it.
A strong majority of whites are already in the GOP camp. If we want more of them we're gonna have to go after so-called "moderates", and that means watering down the message. These folks are hard to pick out -- when you advertise to them you're spending 90% of your money on people who are already voting for you or won't vote for you -- and that's a LOT of wasted money when, as you say, whites are still the majority.
OR you could spend a fraction of that and appeal to CONSERVATIVE blacks, who are easy to pick out for advertising purposes, as mentioned in the article.
So you have a choice between throwing millions of dollars around, hoping to hit a few white swing voters, or you could spend a fraction of that on black radio and steal votes directly from the Democrats' base.
You should read some of Derb's stuff on the "Asian" community and how they're going off to college now and buying hook, line, and sinker the whole religion of "victimology".
Again, very depressing.
PS: If you want to get both depressed and maybe a little apprehensive, read his work on Sino-Fascism.
Yeah, but then you read a quote like this from the article:
Mr. Nadler said the study showed that 69 percent of blacks thought that Democrats would do more to protect the rights of the unborn and 75 percent said Democrats were more likely to lower taxes -- both core Republican issues.and you roll your eyes, and think to yourself, "These people are hopeless."
No, I don't thing that 30-40 million Mexicans have absolutely no aspirations at all.
Hell, maybe we'll get lucky, and, like the blacks and the Jews before them, we'll convince 10% of them to vote for liberty and against tyranny.
So now you've got 3-4 million new voters who will vote for a Republican form of government, and 27-36 million new voters who will vote for a property-seizing socialist form of goverment.
After a while, dude, the numbers just don't add up.
