When Republicans get sent up the river it's good for the economy (MEGA, MEGA BARF ALERT!)
AUSTIN AMERICAN STATESMAN ^ | Friday, September 24, 2004 | JOHN KELSO: COMMENTARY

Posted on 09/24/2004 6:19:55 AM PDT by Arrowhead1952

It was a zippety do dah day for many folks Tuesday when indictments against three of Tom DeLay's lap dogs were announced. Let's face it. There's nothing much more entertaining than the prospect of Republicans going to jail.

From cuff links to handcuffs: It's a fashion transition made in heaven, and it just doesn't get much better than that.

Accused of taking money from corporations such as Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and Sears, Roebuck to help elect a Republican majority in the Legislature were John Colyandro, Jim Ellis and Warren Robold.

Colyandro, the former executive director of Texans for a Republican Majority, is charged with money laundering and accepting illegal corporate contributions. Ellis, head of Americans for a Republican Majority, DeLay's national fund-raising political action committee, is charged with money laundering. Robold, DeLay's corporate fund-raiser, is charged with making and accepting unlawful political contributions by a corporation.

The prospect of a few GOPers being introduced into the behind-bars community is a good thing because, if nothing else, it takes a few of your larger vehicles off the road for a few years. A Democrat gets sent to the joint and, because he's driving a used Toyota or one of those wimpy hybrids, it doesn't give the rest of us a lot of extra elbow room.

Sure, a few GOP-driven Yukons removed from Texas highways isn't a complete cure to our traffic problems. Still, it's two or three annoying sport-utility vehicles that aren't taking up two parking spaces apiece.

Then there's the perp walk thing. Who wants to see some Dem in a cheap outfit from the Men's Wearhouse being led off? What's the fun in that? But nothing is quite so gratifying as turning on the TV news and seeing a Republican in a $1,000 suit and a $50 haircut, his nails freshly manicured, coming out of a courthouse with his hands cuffed behind his back.

I know, I know. It's wrong of me to get such glee out of this. But doggone it, it just makes me downright giddy.

By the way, have you heard about Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle's new Texas redistricting program? The good news for you Republicans is that under this program, each convicted Republican get his own district.

The bad news is that each district is only 8 feet by 9 feet and has a toilet right in the middle.

Now here's a real plus: When Republicans go to jail, it's good for the economy. Think of the money that's spent when a Republican gets nailed. See, Republicans hire the most expensive attorneys. We're not talking trickle-down here. We're talkin' major flood.

And how about those top-of-the-line tables at fine restaurants that are freed up for others when Republicans are doing time? Where, for example, was House Speaker Tom Craddick when he took that $100,000 check from the Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care Inc., one of the corporations busted by Earle? A gourmet eatery in Houston called Anthony's, that's where.

Thanks to Ronnie Earle, now maybe you won't have to sit over by the bus tub.

For immediate use after reading this lefty's trash.

John Kelso is a yellow dog dumbocRAT who is still insisting that Bush was "selected, not elected". This is just another example of how much the left hates Republicans. If the RATs had done this and were being investigated, he would be complaining about the legal process.

As Rush says, "We need to keep these people on college campuses, just to remind us of who they are."

Here is how it usual plays out....

Democrat is elected and forces liberal fiscal policy on nation.

After several years, as the economy starts to sour a bit or as people just get plain tired of the Democrat, a Republican is elected to office.

Republican imposes more conservative fiscal policies designed to expand economy.

Liberal policies of previous administration begin to affect the economy, higher unemployment as a result of higher taxes, etc.

Republican gets blamed for results of liberal policies.

The Democrats are still royally pissed at the loss of their top-dog status in Texas. Travis County DA (and Democrat) Ronnie Earle's indictment of several Republicans was politically motivated. Depending on what happens in the elections, I wouldn't be surprised if they're dismissed before trial in the next year.

By the looks of the backlash at Earle and the current strong Republican field of candidates, Earle may be under investigation before long. Couldn't happen to a sorrier POS. The only thing that keeps that SOB in office, is all the libs in Austin voting for him. The rest of Travis Co. is turning more and more Republican.

Actually, it was so obtuse, I seriously thought it was sarcasm. It wasn't funny and made little sense unless seen through those glasses. To me at least.

You have to know Kelso and the Austin Pravda to know why they print this garbage. This paper adores the likes of Molly Ivins, Ben Sergeant and the like. Any news that is good for Bush or America, will be buried on page A - 8 thru A - 12. Any news that may be bad for America and especially Bush, makes the front page above the fold. Same with letters to the editor. Bush-bashing letters every day. Any that support Bush will be challenged by some left-wing idiot in Austin.

The See BS dan blather memogate had a tiny start on page A - 1, but not for bashing See BS. They printed EVERY accusation in the memos and then on the back of the A section, there was the part that the memos MAY be fake or forged.

Geez, did you have to? The funniest thing Kelso's ever said or done is eat tofu for a solid month after the Super Bowl a few years ago. The guy's columns are a guaranteed snorefest.
