The Left has succeeded in at least one instance in banning the Bible in Canada (one pastor was fined for a poster with a biblical citation that condemns homosexual activity), so I don't think it is so far fetched that the Left would not try to destroy free speech and freedom of religion rights here in this country, particularly with the right kind of Supreme Court justices.
I don't disagree with you a bit. My point about the GOP steering clear of this is that I do think it sounds a little hysterical.
And there is a pastor sitting in jail in Sweden for preaching on Romans Chapter 1. The U.S. is heading in that direction if the leftist socialist nazis get their way.
