HISTORIAN Douglas Brinkley sounded fair and balanced yesterday in the New York Times when he was quoted: "Every American now knows that there's something really screwy about George Bush and the National Guard, and they know that John Kerry was not the war hero we thought he was." But Brinkley, who wrote a gushing biography of Kerry, had to issue another statement after John O'Neill, one of the 250 Swift Boat Veterans and author of "Unfit for Command," seized on his quote as evidence that "John Kerry had intentionally misled Douglas Brinkley as to details of his service in Vietnam."[snip]

So Brinkley let his guard down and had a brief moment of truth. I can just imagine the phone calls he must have received.

Yep, quite a Swift response from Kerry, whose campaign paid for Brinkley's flip/flop comment.
He paid for the correction the NYT has not issues a retraction IIRC.

What a surprise that kerry can dance; he wrote his own choreography!
My Gawd. It must be catching. Now even Kerry's 'historian' does flip flops.
Brinkley interviewed over 100 sources. He had access to more than we do on the Internet. He chose to whitewash Kerry. There are gaping holes in his account.
Check out the John F. Kerry Timeline. Maybe Brinkely should read it, he'd learn a few things.
