Spending money early doesn't always help. Daschle had spent $7 million before Thune practically spent a dime, and barely led in the polls. Once Thune started to spend money, he pulled into the lead.

Coburn should be able to pull this one out with some fundraising help from around the country. That plus the old grassroots: go Oklahoma!

I live in Tulsa in a neighborhood that is mixed, but has a large number of black professional families. Thursday evening a young black woman came to my door and asked for the two previous owners of the house. She had a clipboard with a form on which she appeared to have been recording names and addresses, with a Brad Carson sticker prominently displayed on the clipboard. No Kerry paraphernalia whatsover (wonder why).

When I told her that neither of those people lived here anymore, she asked me if I was a Democrat. I said 'No, I'm a Republican,' and she just politely said 'Oh, thank you' and went away.

Possibly Democrats getting names and addresses to use in loading the ballot box for Carson? I have thought since that I should have said 'yes, I am a democrat' just to see what her next move would be.
