While I do believe that the deficit problem is overblown, I don't think it doesn't matter. I would love to see a Hugh decrease in spending from the federal government. But, I think that the majority of President Bush's spending initiatives have been political moves intended to take away the issues RATS have run on for years. I don't know whether his second term will remedy some of this problem, but I do know it has put the Republican party in a position where we have a good chance to be the majority party for years to come. If we can get the majority and hold it, we can do many things to fix our government over time, which is the only way the majority of Americans (weaned on social programs) will support it. If this plan comes to fruition, as I think it will, it is more than worth a little deficit spending in the short term.
