Report: Al-Qaeda 'Movement' Doesn't Report to bin Laden

Osama bin Laden may now serve more as an inspirational figure than a CEO of al-Qaeda, reports the LA Times.

There is a consensus that Al Qaeda's leadership still exerts some control over attacks worldwide, however, says the report, veterans of the extremist movement have demonstrated a new autonomy in using the group's ideology and training techniques to launch attacks with little or no direct contact with the leaders.

"Any assessment that the global terror movement has been rolled back or that even one component, Al Qaeda, is on the run is optimistic and most certainly incorrect," said M.J. Gohel, head of the Asia-Pacific Foundation. "Bin Laden's doctrines are now playing themselves out all over the world. Destroying Al Qaeda will not resolve the problem."

Furthermore, experts are alarmed by Al Qaeda's switch from spectacular attacks that require years of planning to smaller, more numerous strikes on softer targets that can be carried out swiftly with little money or outside help.

Case in point: A Saudi captured after a botched car bombing in Baghdad recently said he had been slipped across the border, given $200 and keys to a car and told to attack a military convoy.

According to the Times report, the Al Qaeda movement now appears to be more of an ideology than an organization -- spreading worldwide among cells inspired by the Sept. 11 attacks.

Adherents of the movement generally share a few basic principles: an overarching belief that Muslims must take up arms in a holy war against the Judeo-Christian West, a profound sense of indignation over the deaths of Muslims in Palestinian territories and Iraq, and a conviction that secular rulers should be replaced by Islamic governments.

This should solidify America's resolve even more -- we must have a strong President to continue the war on terror, with John sKerry we could very well be doomed.

Kind of hard to serve as CEO of anything when you're dead.

President (barf) Kerry will engage an Army of backhoes to dig up what is left of Bin Laden and then declare terrorism defeated.

He'll still act as head to demoralize them when we put his head on a stick

Exactly. This is not a "War on Terror", any more than WWII was a "War on "Blitzkreig". Nor are we at war with Al Qaeda only. We are at war with radical Islam. The sooner that is clarified in the public's mind. the better.

Even the LAT is "getting it."

This puts into perspective all of the 'rat whining about failing to catch or kill OBL. As if cutting the tallest blade of grass in a field would cause the death of the rest of the grass.

This will be solved when we pull the rug out from under Islamofascism once and for all.

We're going to find out, sooner or later,

If Abdul will pray, to a glowing crater.

The LA Times article is a hit piece, with a message, that terrorism is still a threat, it's too hard to fight it, so we shouldn't. They don't quite come out and say it, but almost. This is the same theme that Kerry had, that we "can't fight communism all over the world", so we might as well just accept it.

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-qaeda26sep26,1,7404747.story?coll=la-home-world

Main message is defeatism and surrender. That's Kerry's approach to our security: surrender and hope the terrorists will let us live.

Hard to control the mob when you are ketchup in Tora Bora.

Osama may be the spiritual leader from above, but Saddam is just a convict.

For those who are interested, I've put together a chart called, "Connect the Dots . . . Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden"

Alqaeda is the PC boogey man so that nobody has to speak the truth that Islam is at war against human civilization.

We need to stop being so PC-whipped and get to the truth before it's too late.

That says it all.

Tell that to the SE Asians. Kerry said if we pulled out, maybe 5,000 would die. How many million Cambodians, Vietnamese, and Laotians died as a result. I've heard 5 to 10 MILLION.

He was a traitor to this country, but he has also betrayed those in Asia and Central American who looked for our protection.

Check out the John F. Kerry Timeline.

He's dead.

And I hope someone is working, as we speak, on ID'ing his DNA. That would make a great October Surprise!

[They are motivated by] a profound sense of indignation over the deaths of Muslims in Palestinian territories and Iraq

Why should these murderers be profoundly indignant over that when their entire emphasis is on killing others so the murderers can get to heaven faster and have a happier afterlife (supposedly)?

I can't wait for them to either find Osama or re-elect Osama Momma Patty Murray (Senator, D, WA) so I can quit feeling obligated to remind people of her lack of patriotism.

I don't know how they'd find his specific DNA in Kandahar - maybe use a core drilling rig and analyze the core samples?

Binnie boy has become a dessicated pap smear by now. At least he led by example and died just like the rest of them will in short order. Iraq is going to become the Hotel California of the middle east.

Were he alive the LAT would have hired him as a columnist by now.
